I have to say, with the help of this site, I have found the problem of my generator. A couple weeks ago, I went up to the boat and removed the covers and was setting everything up. I opened the ER, did a check, turned on my blowers, started my engines and tried to start my generator. NOTHING! Not even a beep!

So I turned everything off, and started checking it out, and found my 7 amp fuse kept blowing. I had absolutely no idea where to start, but I knew I could more than likely find an answer here!

I did, and it was absolutely right on the mark. My oil sensor was shorting to the block itself, and that kept blowing the fuse. I unplugged it, the generator started to turn over and would run, but shut off when I released the switches. I then tested the sensor itself and sure enough the continuity test proved the sensor was doing just that!

$62 later (not bad in my book) and I have a working and happy generator! I have an even more happy wife too!

I LOVE it when I am able to fix things on my own, and I want just tell everyone what a great site we have here, for fun, passion and a resource.

Place a checkmark in the win column!

Excellent!....i could not agree more about the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment you get when you properly diagnose an issue and take the proper corrective measures....

there is this 'good' feeling but also the cost savings from not having to pay a mechanic and the time saved from not having to wait on the mechanic.....

this is a 'win - win' situaion where you won on both accounts....

Congrats. I especially like the "not having to wait" part of that. The guys around here are just way too busy it seems. AND, it's a pat on your own back for figuring it out, regardless of how long it takes. (I'm still really bad at the "how long it takes" part:smt021). Good job.

Thanks for all the kind words! It was a score for the good guys. Chris, I’m like you too, not very good at the “how long it takes” part! But as I get older (darn it) persistance and patience is working its way into this thick skin of mine!!! LOL!

Congrats! I've learned a lot about gennys in the last year or so. Both Koehler and now westerbeke... It's amazing how the same sounding problem can have so many different solutions. I've finally had to call in the pros. Got the 'run only while holding prestart switch' issue. Tested every sensor, capacitor, board that I can and still stumped. Now I wait and will pay$$ I'm sure.

Larry&Leisa, I feel your pain! I agree, so many solutions for what seems like a simple problem... then we pay and wait. I hope it isn’t as bad as you think!

Matt

Thanks Matt, No I don't think it will be that bad ( other than perhaps the $$, it's a 90 mile one way trip for the tech) and that's the frustrating part. I'm sure it will be something relatively simple, it's just not knowing 'the place' to look. I plan on being there so I can learn even more tho and pass it along. ( I'm too old to be contorted in an ER for very long anymore so it's the time, patience, ability thing. Sometimes ya just gotta pay to play )

Larry, I hear ya! I have paid for my time in the ER all week! LOL, oh well. If what I did didn’t work, which is lucky, I’d be paying someone too, like you said, pay to play! Ya’ll getting the cold snap too? I’m headed to Texoma tomorrow night just to check on my baby....
