How cool, we decided to fill the boat up and give it a run down the Georges River in Sydney and right next our yacht club there was a pod of Dolphins, maybe about 10 incluing a calf.

We have never seen any Dolphins in the area before. After we got near them we turned the boat off and floated, and they came around us. We followed them down the river and watched as they chased and caught some fish.

Nature at its best. The best thing was this was so close to home and the marina.

It's a very cool experience to see large fish (Yeah, I know they're mammals) like that. Thanks for the photos.

Very nice thanks for posting:) We see quite a few in our ICW off the Gulf of Mexico and every time we think how great to see them. Unfortunately, our local Institute of Marine Biology folk report that their numbers are dying at an alarming rate and they don't know why..... Do hope they find out soon they are wonderful creatures.

You might want to do a bit of research regarding the demise of the Dolphin population. You'll find that no reputable organization is indicating that the US Dolphin population is declining, fortunately. None of them will say the population is increasing but they will not affirm a decrease at least in the US where they are quite protected including and most importantly, in rules for commercial fishing. That is clearly good news. Not criticizing your statement, merely offering another researched view. No doubt you also hope I'm correct.

Where we saw the dolphins, it was very rare to see them. My wife has grown up on this river and has never seen them. It must be the water quality is improving. The river has had some pollution problems over the years. We did have a pretty good whale season off Sydney this year as well

I don't think your water quality in the Georges is improving....I wouldn't swim in it!.....the Dolphins are just acclimatising!

If you're referring to me, I was merely restating what was reported on our Channel 8 news a few months ago from a local aquarium. I do hope they're wrong too, but they don't generally screw up. But there's a first time for everything.
