Dog Owners - Fencing Options? Any invisible fence opinions?

Also read that if a dog is running or chasing something and goes through the zone it wont be able to get back in.
I don’t know, just asking.
100% true. Just make sure the fence company has a refund policy if it doesn’t work. Our Saint Bernards just walked across the fence and didn’t look back. Even the strongest collar they had didn’t phase them.

Neighbor has a golden retriever that ignores their invisible fence. Our dogs come and go via a dog door into a fenced yard. Can’t do that with the invisible fence.

100% false. Do your research folks. A lot has changed for in-ground fences in the lat 5 +/- years. A lot of useful tech is included in the modern systems.

And as with just about anything dog related, you can't blame the dog if it was never trained (correctly) and/or the owners are too lazy to replace the batteries in the collar.

EDIT - apologies, I should have shared some data to backup my bold claim. I think Invisible Fence brand is still one of the most popular brands out there?

They've had smart collars for quite some time now. Ramping correction for dogs that charge the fence and a shock-free return feature.

Some breeds feel no pain and see it it as reward vs. punishment.

They sell extra long probes for those dogs. ha

Of course nothing will work for every possible solution. My MIL has Irish Setters that can and will jump a 5' fence. It's insanity...

I use cattle wire at dog height in front of a wire fence that slows him down enough to fry his ass. It will actually burn the hair off his body.

I installed a Petsafe yard max in 2013. It’s been great. My 2 golden retrievers will not cross that line when they have their collars on. And they know when they have their collars on. My property is surrounded by woods so I just layed the wire on the ground except where the driveway is. I have cut the wire a couple times and there is an alarm that lets me know if the wire got cut. So far non complaints.

Half the invisible fence owners in our neighborhood would disagree.
