Does anyone make a flag mount for a vertical rail?

I am looking for a flag mount for our stern, and the logical place to mount it is on a vertical 7/8" rail supporting the rear seat on our center stern. I can find dozens of flag rail mounts designed for horizontal bow rails etc, but cannot find one that would mount to a vertical rail. I've also tried motorcycle flag mounts to no avail. Does anyone know where I could find something that would work?

You're talking about one of the support legs for the rear bench? I'm not sure that would make a good spot - aside from being in the way of anyone sitting there, it would have to be a pretty tall flag pole to get the flag high enough. Plus, the legs are tucked under the bench so the flag pole would likely come upwards at an odd angle.

Do you have a bimini? Look for "charlevoix clips".

His 1999 240DA has the rear bench that hangs over the transom. I don't care for the location of this guys flag and agree that mounting to the vertical seat support would look best.

Original swiveler makes one for motorcycles. I've talked with the owner (Len) before about making a custom one for my arch grab rail and he was more than willing to do it. Just needed two angle measurements. I haven't gotten around to it yet, but checkout what they have and see if something could be customized. I'm guessing he could just side drill a bow-rail mount for you. Their products are rock solid. My bow rail mount hasn't budged under any conditions I've put it through. Extremely happy with the one I put on the trunk rail for the American Flag as well.

Ah, I bet you're right. Thanks. '99 was a transition year and I had the redesigned model style in my head. That makes MUCH more sense. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why someone would want to attach a flag in the spot I was thinking!

But, those clips are still a super easy (and under $10) way to fly a flag - if one would want to go this direction, that is (on the aft bimini leg). Obviously this way couldn't be used if the camper canvas is up.

One thing to note about the proposed location... As I'm sure Gerald knows all too well, because the seat sticks out over the platform, walking along the platform can sometimes be a little tricky. Installing a vertical flag pole there will become an immediate grabrail. It will also add to the "trickiness" since you'll now have a pole/flag sticking up towards your body, face. Suggestion: Temporarily (tape?) attach a pole in place and see if you're OK with moving around it.

Another thing to note is that you likely won't get the pole totally vertical since the seatback is in the way. Which means the top of the flag staff is even more in the way of your chest/face. The only way to get it to be totally vertical is to space the mount further away from pole - but then that becomes more of a tripping hazard.

Other options...
-- A bow mounted flag.
-- Also, I believe Taylor Made makes an adjustable angle flag holder - although I've never looked at it close enough to see if it can go vertical.
-- There are also side-mount flag holders. I believe SeaDog makes one. The mount can be installed on a vertical section of fiberglass. For example, in that picture, a few inches forward and above the gas fill. Of course, it also becomes a grab rail, but anything in that area will do that.

I've heard good things about that Original Swiveler many times.

Thanks for all of the replies. Yes my seat is like the photo that Tonka Boater attached; it is the only logical place to mount a flag on the stern IMO. I do have a swimplatform installed that adds a couple of feet of platform so I do think the flag will be out of the way (if I didn't have that aftermarket swim platform installed then yes a flag would probably be in the way). I had looked at original swiveler but they don't have anything on their website that would work; I never considered calling them to see if they would customize a mount for me. I'll give them a call and let you know what happens. Thanks for the suggestion!

Wow. I feel compelled to provide an update. I called Len at Original Swiveler after 3pm with my request and he replied that he could custom make the mount for a vertical rail. I got it in the mail today and note that he made the mount the same day we talked and immediately got it in the mail to me. It was not inexpensive, but the machining and quality of Original Swiveler is absolutely fabulous. Wow. I am a customer for life and will unhesitatingly recommend him to anyone else needing his products. Well done, sir.
