I recently purchased s 420 Sedan Bridge and the previous owner absconded with the transom flag pole and flag. I've search the ops manual and all related literature and I can't, for the life of me, find the dimensions for the pole and flag (which come with the boat, by the way).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Note the flag in the picture below; the picture is one from the yachtworld.com listing.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Michael

P.S. This is my first post on the forum as I purchased her this past October (a non-mariner might take that the wrong way :)

Congratulations and welcome to CSR. Your boat is beautiful.

The general rule of thumb is you should have one inch of flag run for every foot of length. In your case your flag size should be rounded up to a 30" x 48" flag. As far as the appropriate lenght of the pole goes, you would want at least a minimum 48", or possibly 60".

Michael, congratulations and welcome. I looked at your Parts Manual; it's a great resource available on the Sea Ray site at: http://www.searay.com/Page.aspx/pageId/10530/Parts Manuals.aspx

Here are the stock part numbers for your flag staff and flag:

706747 CLIP, FLAG

685214 FLAG, USA 2'X 3'

1190354 POLE, FLAGSTAFF YACHTS AFT SS 40"

685313 SOCKET, FLUSH MOUNT STERN FLAG POLE

As I suspected, your flag is the same as mine and I think it's pretty standard across sport yachts. It's smaller than the recommended size but I'm afraid a larger flag would be too large and apt to fall out of the shallow mount that's provided while underway (I have a larger one but just put it out inport on holidays). You can buy the flagstaff and flag from a Sea Ray dealer but you may want to shop around. The staff diameter is 1", pretty standard and available in SS and teak from West Marine or online sources. Good luck.

Michael, from one "Mike" to another, and from one SR Sedan Bridge boat to another, welcome aboard. Your boat is beautiful, but then I think all the Sedan Bridge boats are pretty nice looking.

Just a hint....most of us post where we live and boat so others can look us up when they're in our neighborhood. Oh, and we like to see pics of your boat and your family using it. Oh, and another thing.....check online for flags and ensigns. WestMarine is pretty proud of their flags. You can find 'em cheaper online. But that's the way with most things that pertain to boating.

Welcome aboard.

Thanks so much. Buying in in Oct and pulling it out of the water two months later was heartbreaking (I think put 100 hours on her already). I asked the yard to be last out first in and I'm counting the days until the sun warms the East Coast...

Hi GFC!

I'll post some pics and add location info, etc. to my profile. Thanks for the encouragement.

Al,

You're a genius! Thank you for the help. I (thought) that I scoured every inch of the manual but couldn't find it. You've been a big help, thank you.
