I just noticed my documentation expires in March. Does the government send out renewal notices?

I am new to documentation also
My paperwork said that the USCG said that a renewal notice would be mailed out one month prior to expiration.
If you don't receive notice, contact the office no later than two weeks prior to the expiration date.
also included: RESPONSIBILITY FOR RENEWAL IS UP TO THE VESSEL OWNER, WITH OR WITHOUT NOTICE

I received a renewal notice last summer. My dock neighbor received a renewal notice as recently as a month ago. So I think they are still sending them. However, J.Wilt is right. Even if you don't receive a renewal notice, it's still your responsibility to renew. I renewed mine online too. It was easy.

I got a renewal notice in October..

I didn't get a notice (that I know of) and my documentation lapsed. I have now sent all the paperwork in and they're working on submissions from September at this point.

They were able to cash my check right away though, that's a comfort

xerox the check and keep it with your lapsed document. Should you be boarded, it will serve as proof or at least good faith.

I received a reminder from the company that did all our paperwork last year, they where nice enough to offer to do the renewal at $100. So I logged on and found out its $26 and it took 5 mins. I was told by CG to put "renew early" in the comments section. And they do send out a reminder a month before hand.

No longer FREE.... I pay the great state of Washington a LARGE amount and now, of course, the FED's are in my pocket too !!!

I pay $26 a year too, and I used to pay the service as well.. They got me for a few years but I learned my lesson..

I'm curious about LARGE amount you pay... Isn't everyone the same?

Mine expires Feb 29...I received my renewal notiec two weeks ago. You can now pay by CC online - no extra "service fee". I received my new Certificate a week later. Starting next year, they will be good for 5 years rather than one year...

USCG fee is the same, but the state charges varies state to state and here it based on value. So, I pay approximately $1,000.00 per year to my little state sticker. ...

NC now has a host of charges. I have our boat documented. Now have state registration. Third tax is now personal property tax. This is getting ridiculous.

I set up a meeting invitation in my Outlook Calendar that reminds me to go online and renew my documentation. I have a link to the USCG web page for the renewal posted in the invite. I don't trust the mailed reminders...

I do the same. A few years back I sent the renewal in and never heard. Checking later, determined the CG lost my paperwork and I had to overnight a new check and form plus pay a late fee. Now I pay online with a credit card that has a low limit in case it is hacked. It is best to have an expiration date that occurs when your boat is in storage so you can trouble shoot snafus and not worry about operating with an expired certificate.

That's crazy!! Had no clue...

Did you not have to pay sales tax on the purchase maybe? Trying to figure out what offsets the no fee here for that... Sorry to hear that :(
