Anyone tried to renew documentation during the shutdown?

I just visited the National Vessel Documentation Center website.

https://www.dco.uscg.mil/Our-Organi...s-DCO-D/National-Vessel-Documentation-Center/

As of January 4, 2019 there is now a multi-year documentation for recreational vessels.

https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/USDHSCG/bulletins/2263de5

Multi-Year Certificate of Documentation: RECREATIONAL Only
U.S. Coast Guard sent this bulletin at 01/04/2019 09:41 AM EST
Recreational vessel owners who wish to renew for more than one year may do so by including additional fees in the amount of $26.00 per extra year requested, and annotating same on the CG-7042 Credit Card Form, or in the Memo line of checks.

Nice. I wonder if there is a limit to the number of years one can register for in advance?

Just received mine in the mail today. It was mailed to them at the end of November.

With this posted on their web page, wondering whether to send in renewal or wait.

I would send it and require someone to sign for it. They lost mine about four years ago and charged me a steep late fee. Also spent 20 bucks to overnight another one to avoid having to go through re documentation. Relied on first class mail and the agency to treat me right initially. Lost on both counts absent proof of compliance. Send it in and keep your receipts with the expired documentation in case you are boarded. Even then you may be hassled for operations in violation of the regulation. Operating with all required safety gear, registrations, no open containers or illegal drugs or firearms, and I would think you would be fine if boarded as long as you are respectful to the boarding party.

If your renewal is due during the government shutdown (yawn), and you do all that is expected/required of you, then things should be ok, no? Heck, the furloughed government employees are even being paid their back pay for work not done.
