I put in a new dock recently and am to the point that I am tired of the hose rolled up and laying on the dock. What works well as a hose reel near salt water? Any DIY custom created solutions out there?

I never rolled my hose up. Just kept a clean white hose stretched out along side the white shore power cord that ran to the boat. If you keep your dock clean and free of spiders, it looks nice all season and is handy to use.

Best hose I found is the ones that shrink when the pressure is off. If you live in California you will get cancer from using it. In the rest of the US you will be fine.
I have bought at least 3 of them over the past 3 or 4 years and ALL of them sprang leaks within the first few months.
Maybe new ones have improved.

I believe the new ones have improved. The three at our home are 3 years old and still going strong.

Cut the hose to fit the length from the dock to the boat. When you want to wash the boat keep a hose in the boat in storage and hook it to the one that goes to the boat.
Better yet put a splitter on the boat water inlet and run the water hose to it. Then the other hose can be hooked to it for washing the boat. We keep a spare hose on the boat to use when the boat goes to another marina to dock.

I wrap mine around a dock box. About 4-5 turns and keeps it from getting curled up small.

I am not on salt, but I just use a plastic hose holder attached to the side of my dock box. Before I had a dock box, I screwed a length of PT 2x4 about 3ft long vertically to the side of the dock by the water supply and screwed the hose holder to that. As long as it is not too high, our marina has no problem with that either.

Hahahahaha!!! I almost spit my coffee up!!! Too funny!!

I also have one of these on my boat in the transom locker. They are not that great because you have to pull the whole thing out to use it, and it kinks while using it. Mine is shorter than this one from Amazon. But its handy to have if you want to wash your boat at an away marina when travelling.

Hilarious.

Smelling pot everywhere, pissing on the sidewalks and living on the streets is totally safe though

Thanks for all the ideas. I ended up going with a retractable reel on a swivel base. I will see how long this lasts but it keeps the hose up out of the way.

I like it. Where did you get it? How long is the hose?
