I'm just curious how many of us survive the winter layup and are able to continue boating and how many of us have to winterize?

The fall boating season just started. Flat seas all week. Stayed on the hook for the first time since last spring. Days 85 degrees, nights 65, water
78 degrees, it doesn't get much better.

I just put in new batteries does that count?

Changed the oil and filter this morning, drained the water out of the block, winterized the head. Tomorrow I'll blow out the freshwater system and clean everything out and park it for the winter. :smt009

I'm holding out for one more warm weeekend day around Halloween.
Then it's off to the dealer for winterization, and storage until next May.

Going next tuesday. Get need to take some stuff off the boat and winterize the AC. Then haul powerwash and oil change winterize the engines and shrink.

I am waffling. My original plan was to do a complete service for winter, then recommission in the spring. However, we put less than 50 hours on this year, we expect to use it this winter, I have a bitchin' bilge heater and shore power that keeps the cabin comfy, and it isn't like we dodge ice floes in metro Atlanta. Right now, I am thinking I'll put the canvas up, but otherwise just live with the temperatures and do a complete service in March...but I could be convinced otherwise.

What say you Reward, Black Pearl and M5?

Wow I'm shocked that it's this skewed so far.

Me too. But in part the numbers will be skewed based on where the majority of members are located.

Here in the California Delta the weather rarely, if ever, freezes. We just add an extra heater and go boating.

I hope I never winterize again. If I made through last winter; the worst we've had in over 20 years, I can make through any of them that will happen this far South. I hope to never buy another gallon of pink stuff ever again. It gets cold here, but doesn't stay cold more than a few days at a time. Water was 70 degrees last weekend.

Yeah, we bought a garage 2 years ago. It will dip below freezing a few times a year for a lengthened period of time(maybe 2-3 days). I just get some heat to the boat and check on it daily. Fortunately most of the time the temps are in the high 30's for the lows at night and mid-upper 40's during the day. Last Winter we headed out on the day after Christmas, Jan 2nd and the following weekend.

Add another non winterizing......going on my 7th year of year round boating...This area gets a few sub zero days, but never found the creek frozen over, at best a light skim of ice......Rather pleasant in the winter.....more attuned to boating than to defensive driving.....
Cheers all
Pete

I winterized the Sea Doo already. I will winterize my runabout this week but the cruiser will remain in the water until the 27th, 28th or 29th depending on which day gives the least snotty weather.

Unfortunately, unless you're real good with an ice chisel and getting thru 4'+ of ice, you have to winterize here. :( (the ice breaker ferries do it most of the time, once in a great while they have to shutdown due to conditions.

I used to only winterize the FW and AC systems and let the Boatsafe take care of the ER. After spending 11 Large to repower )one engine due to freeze damage), I am pinking everything. We had a real hard winter last year and this year is predicting as bad or worse. Not taking any chances. Will stay in the slip Dec, Jan, and Feb, and back online first of March.

Note that I am not blaming the Boatsafe. It cleary states it does not take the place of winterizing systems in some climates, but can extend your boating season in some which is my case.

Just got mine and have no intentions of putting her up! The plan is to grill steaks at Disappearing Island on Christmas Day...lol

I will be checking my bilge heater this weekend, bringing down the cockpit heater and probably breaking out the canvas. Changed the oil last week.

I really want to be able to take the boat out in the snow this year. I was out of town both times it snowed last year.

We have quick-drain valves on the block. So, we use her during the winter and let the water out each time she goes on the lift.

I put the bow cover on and the kids "play" up there. Our winter time rides rarely include getting up on plane, just putting around the cove and out to the main channel for a change of scenery.
