Should it not have said "A nation under your God" that way it would have united ever one equally and not exclude anyone.

I believe "Under God" was added by President Eisenhower in the late 50's.
It was already in there when I started school. Us kids thought we were doing something important every morning, George Washington(he was the first president, the father of our country ya' know) was hanging up there on the wall watching us. I googled it, Eisenhower made the change in '54.

The SRBCNC begins every general meeting with it. Call us old fashioned but we do.

Just personal opinion, and you can chide me for living in a liberally biased area, but I never felt like I needed to robotically chant a pledge to love my country and way of life. I felt that way as a school kid and I feel that way today.

The Nazi's had a lot of pledges too, in fact the original pledge of allegiance had the exact same salute associated with it if you were not aware. Google Bellamy salute to see nice pictures of American school children throwing up their right arms if you want a chuckle. Patriotism is not in the display of flags or chanting pledges or removing your hat for the national anthem, it is in your everyday actions and thoughts.

Your last sentence is certainly true. I for one however do not "chant the pledge" nor do I remove my hat "for the anthem". I remove my hat in an effort to show my respect and gratitude towards the men and women that have sacrificed to protect us. I pledge my allegiance aloud as a proclaimation of my belief in an ideal and in unity with those I am with.

Im sure we are on the same page here. Just don't want to be lumped in with substanceless chanters.

Removing your hat is a sign of respect...

With what my hair looks like on a "hat day" its far more respectful of others to leave it on.

I suppose I think that whether I scream it from a mountain top or silently observe it, my patriotism is no less than someone who belts out the national anthem or the pledge of allegiance. I just prefer not to, I don't feel any pressure to reaffirm my feelings in any way, singing, reciting or hat removing or anything else for that matter. I will say the very first thing I did when I got my boat was affix a US flag to my stern, I couldn't see it otherwise. I might be the only boat on my dock that has one though.

I do not recite the pledge because I do not believe in god and I don't want to be hypocritical. I can't say under god because I don't believe it. Count me among the camp that thinks we need to roll back Eisenhower's decision.

I never say "under god" when saying the pledge. Its not part of the original pledge and was added out of irrational fear of communism. George Washington stated thsat the United States is in no way founded on christianity. This nation is secular and thats the ony way to be. Look at the middle east for a perfect example of theologial nations.

If you do ever say the pledge just skip those two words, I missed a couple words when I was a kid and it didn't seem to hurt anything.
