Do I need special tools to adjust headlights on 05 GM trucks?

Yes, you need a TORX screwdriver. I had on 06, if it's the same as an 06, just open the hood and look down along the top of the headlamp, I'm going by memory but I think the adjustment was on the outer edge near the fender.... you should see either a small hole or a TORX head screw... that will adjust the vertical axis of the lamp, there was no horizontal adjustment on 06's.
