Hi, sorry for the newbie post. I just bought a 2005 290 Amberjack yesterday. The owner had bought a new Garmin 741xs system for it, so it wasn't a big deal (apparently) that the dash tachs and speedo lcd gauges weren't working. But, I do want to replace those lcd screens in those three gauges if I can find just the lcds (from reading through the forums, they're like finding a needle in a haystack). If I can't find just the lcd screens, then I'll get three new complete gauges to replace these. I'm looking through the owner's manual and I see this photo of two possible gauge set-ups for the gas engine option: one for gauges/boats with the Smartcraft System View and one set-up for systems without the System View (different gauges, depending on which you have, apparently):

Not sure if you can see in the photo or not, but the two tachs in the top photo have the lcd screens and the buttons on the bottom to navigate through the different options/features on the lcd. BUT, that photo is for engines/systems WITHOUT the System View, per the title of the picture. The gauges on the bottom do NOT have the lcd screens/buttons, but are listed (per the title of the pic) as the gauge layout for systems WITH the System View. This seems very contrary to my (logical???) thinking. Is this a typo in the manual, or????

My gauges DO have the lcd screens (that aren't working), but this pic is making me second-guess whether or not I have the System View functionality on this boat. Is there some other way to determine whether this boat/engine system has the System View stuff functions? I'd like to purchase the correct gauges and install them (or just the lcd screens, if I can find them).

Thank you for any input/insight.

William

show us a photo of your instrument panel....

but I think you have "sc1000" guages, not systemview or vesselview

Here's the dash as it sits on my kitchen counter. ;-) I THINK that it does NOT have the System View, just the engine stuff. And from what I'm reading, it seems like I will probably be better off just buying all new gauges, instead of trying to find the lcd screens. They seem to be super hard to find online. Thanks MickT

Well, I'm having trouble with csr accepting my image....ugh...I'll keep trying....sorry..

This is ridiculous...how small does the dang photo have to be???? ugh....still trying...sorry

Yeah, sorry, it won't 'accept' the photo. I've reduced the size until it's not even viewable any longer and it still won't accept it. Forget it....it's absurd.

Thank you for trying to help, I appreciate it....I think you're correct, though, with the sc1000 gauges.

Take care,
William

no picture visible....

system view (sc5000, I think no longer available?) and vessel view (several flavours, vv4, vv7, vv502, vv702) are not round guages with dials - they are square lcd screens, bigger than the instrument dials...

MercMonitor is a round instrument - about the same size as the engine guages, but again, no dial, just lcd screen.

the engine guages with no lcd are called "flagship".

You *might* be able to upgrade to mercmonitor or vessel view - it would all depend on what version ECU are fitted to your engines.

Yeah, mine are round, with the needles AND the lcd screens, but the lcd screens have crapped out. I do think, from everything I'm reading, that they're the sc1000 ones. Thanks, MickT, I appreciate your input/insight.....William

is the garmin hooked up to read all the engine data?

I wonder if the previous owner put it in after finding out the replacement costs for the sc1000's?

I will ask him, but I don't believe so, otherwise he would have been able to give me the engine hours readout, correct? I had to have a mechanic at the marina hook up his laptop and his Mercury "diagnostics" (my term) adapter directly to the engines to give me the exact number of hours on the engines. If the Garmin had the gateway thing hooked up, it would've given that data, correct?

I found a Mercury dealer here in Orlando, so I may just take my dashboard to them tomorrow and discuss the options for either the gateway for the Garmin to get the engine data or new Smartcraft gauges.

there is also a vessel view mobile dongle that can be plugged in to the smartcraft system, transmits all engine data to smartphone/pad/pc over bluetooth.

Thanks, MickT. I'm naive about the features of the different options. I should really look into what is included in the 'regular' gauges vs the System View vs the Vessel View.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
