Almost done making our new cocktail table so I thought I'd post a few pictures. First, materials:
18"X1" pine "table" from Home Depot
minwax ebony oil based stain
minwax prestain treatment
8oz kit east coast resin clear epoxy
pedestal base from our v berth table I never use
chrome sea ray logo from eBay

I sanded the table, primed with the prestain, and applied two coats of stain about 2 hours apart. Then let that dry for a couple days. I applied the sticker in the center, then a seal coat of epoxy (2 oz) and allowed to cure for 24 hours. Wet sanded a couple dust spots using 800, then applied the flood coat of 6oz resin and spread using a rubber spreader. Heat gun and propane torch helped level the epoxy and get bubbles out. I'll let it cure for 5-7 days before using. I love it, and it was cheap. First four are seal coat, last 2 are flood coat

Very pretty. Nice job. Keep it covered when not using it. Epoxy resin yellows with UV and sun exposure..

Well done!

But those cocktails are gonna slide right off that sucker! Haha!

Good idea here, Kinda wonder how it would look and work if you used a hole saw, and noctched 4 cup ridges in it before all the stains and coats, so final product has some cup holers/ redges to keep things on it.

Thanks all, making a sunbrella cover for it as well to protect it. East coast resin says this resin is UV resistant and will resist yellowing, but I'll still cover it when not in use.

would like to see it in use too, to see how big it is vs the space in cockpit, but I like it!

I love the way pine takes a stain deep and gets a 3D look to it with a poured coating. Similar to a flame top guitar maple burl. I bet it looks like its moving when you move your head while looking at it in the sun. Love it.

Is this the pine table top you used? http://www.homedepot.com/p/Edge-Glu...-in-Actual-1-0-in-x-17-75-in-680435/202017011

I'd like to hear feedback about how well it works for cocktails, etc. Will you use it in the v-berth or is there a socket in the floor of your cockpit?

That's the one. They had a bunch of sizes from 18" up to 3' I believe. The 18" in our little 290 is plenty, but the process was fun so I might make a bigger one just for the hell of it.

I'll use it in the aft part of the cockpit in the floor pedestal mount in place of our big dining table. The big OEM table takes up the whole space and makes getting in/out of the bench seats a pain.

Great ideas on the cup holders, I thought about that as well but being my first go at epoxy like this I wanted to keep it simple. Getting a good flow into the depression for the cup holders would be a little challenging since this stuff likes to auto level, it might fill up the hole.

I'll get pictures of it in the boat over the next couple days and post them

I built tables with the thick clear epozy, and I am betting you would have to do a coat, and then use tape to seal the cup holders off from the main layers. so fill them till your good, let *** dry, and then make tape wall. then poor on the mian part, and the tape wall would keep it from filling the holes, then once done, remove tape. but as i type this it comes to mind then the new layer would be stuck to the tape. ha

SO new Idea... take table, hole saw the cup holers all the way through.... then have another peace of pine/ table to cut patches bigger then holes. Staine table with holes, stain patches, do all layers, THEN mount the patches on the bottom side of table... thus giving you the 1 inch lip of the missing holes but with a bottom that matches.

just my thoughts! ha very sharp table already. enjoy

after pricing table, I would buy 2, cut holes in one and flip the solid one upside down, and attache to the other, 6 bucks each.

That's cool, man! Way cheaper, yet worth way more than a factory Sea Ray table.

A couple in the boat. Just need to knock down the underside drips once it fully cures. Not sure if I'll do one more flood coat, there's a tiny depression but the rest is so good I might leave it alone.

That looks FANTASTIC with the gray carpet. Know I know why you chose the black stain.

THANK YOU! The carpet was another one of my " I can do it cheaper" obsessions and it is defintely not the same as the pros but we've had good luck with it for 2 years
