Dirty Engine Oil

Gents,,
I have a new 230 Select w/ the 5.7 Mag MPI,, Great engine for the boat but I am concerned about the condition of the engine oil. W/ 7 hrs on the engine, my oil is clear but has crud in it, almost looks like paint chips. Dealer MM, says they have seen it before and not to worry, It is paint from the dipstick tube and the filter will catch it... Anybody out there w/ this issue. Bear in mind this is a new '07, It has been sitting around for a while. Thanks for any advise

I am a peace of mind sort of guy also. Firstly, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The screen on the oil pump will catch it first and what does get by will be caught by the filter. Me just being me though and depending on how painful it is to get at the oil pan drain plug, I would put some kerosene in a bug sprayer and try to get it out of there. But I always get in trouble doing crazy things like that.

I WOULD NOT put any sort of fuel into your oil... looking for problems that way.

Just drain the oil and refill; replace the filter.

And btw... The oil filter does not filter ALL of the oil that is fed from the pump to the engine. There is a bi-pass valve that allows oil to continue on past the filter, so there is potential for serious engine damage when running around with contaminated oil. However, it doesn't sound like you've got a serious issue.

Like NateRW21 said, just change your oil. I imagine you can wait till the 20 hour mark with no harm done though. this is normal during the break in period.

Hey! That's strange! I bought my 06 in march 07 and I had the exact same issue. I took the boat to mm and told them to change the oil.....for free.

They did, thats what I'd recommend.
