I am DTV subscriber today, and the marina has a DTV dish that has open ports I can connect to. My question is can I just hook the coax in transom to the DTV switch and turn off the Glomex and receive a DTV signal to my receiver?

Normally at home I just run a straight coax line from the SWM to the receiver, and everything works. I know DTV signals do not like to be split without using approved splitters.

The main goal would be to use DTV at dock, and when on the hook, use the Glomex antenna.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Not likely. Most of the boats are wired so the transom and antenna cables both go to the amplifier. When the AMP is off, it "bypasses" the signal from the transom feed through the AMP to the TV. Problem is the bypass function of the AMP is not compatible with a satellite signal. I had to unscrew the transom coax cable from the back of the Glomex amp then use a barrel connector to extend that cable directly to my satellite box. This method still allows the Glomex and AMP to be used when on the hook since the Antenna is still connected.

There is a good chance you will need to do the same.

Thanks! I think I will take your suggestion and disconnect the transom cable from the glomex amplifier and use a barrel connection to extend it to the DTV receiver in the galley. This way I can still use the glomex amplifier when I am on the hook, by switching what source the TV is using (HDMI for the DTV receiver when at the dock), and Coax cable when on the hook for the Glomex. Plus this way the v-berth can always use the Glomex antenna as well regardless if I am at the dock.

Great suggestion!
