Digital TV for those of you with the 15" cabin LCD

I was looking at ours this past weekend. I'm thinking of getting a 19" and letting it overhang the slot left and right. I don't think it would look out of place and I could still rotate it for viewing from the forward berth.

There seems to be good stuff in the 19" range... that would require some major surgery in the staterooms and I'm not there yet....

Our marina does not have cable yet either so I am going to get one of those DTV "converter boxes". I was on another boat on Sat night where the owner had installed one of these onto his boat. He was now able to get approx 20-30 channels whereas I can only get 3 without it! And the 3 that I do get come in terrible. These are the same boxes that they are offering a $40 coupon to via the mfgrs? if you buy 2 boxes...which I just happen to need. This way, whether I have access to cable or not, I can get these digital stations via my antenna.

Uh.....my kids have a 7" portable DVD player. So far they haven't begun talks of mutiny. That I know of.........

I'll admit it would be nice to have a decent entertainment set-up, but for us, one of the really "decompressing" elements of boating is the peace and quiet.

I had a Dell LCD in a room of the house that was not being used so I replaced the 9" Panasonic in my 340 that was 17 years old and still working. The Dell is a 16:9 format and works great at all angles. I did have to open up the cabinet a bit though. I bought it on ebay for $500 about 4 years ago.

We didn't subscribe to cable at the slip but I will connect sometimes at our guest dock. I don't have an antenna so we mostly watch DVDs. But I don't think we have ever made it through a whole movie without falling asleep. Sucks gettin' old.

There is very little choice in 15" HDTVs. It works fine. It doesn't hold a candle to my Pioneer Elite plasmas, but then what does.

How do you run the 110 V converter box without a genny? Did you install an inverter? I just purchased an Artec Digital converter box that runs on 12 volts. It's about the size of a double package of playing cards. Trying to decide where to install it now.

teekster,
you seem like an expert in the area, on my 2004 34 i have a rear fold down TV, this past weekend my son went to use it, and it was warm, seems like the TV, power came on when the accessory switch on the DC panel was turned on usually we have to turn the power on or flip the tv screen down. Either way the TV, does not work now. has power to it as the red lights on the front of the show, but will not respond to remote control, or the buttons inside. Any suggestions.

I also added a small 120v converter mounted behind the TV. My kids can now watch TV or DVD without the generator on

How does this actually work? did you just plug the converter into the existing AC outlet behind the TV? So power is going to that plug or did you splice it in somewhere?? Thanks!

Either way would work, but they stopped installing the outlets when they switched to 120v-only LCDs. I had to splice in. I would think you are in the same position with your 320.

I installed two Element 15" TVs that fit inside the original cabinet work of the old Panasonic VHS units. When underway I fold the TV inside the pocket and it is out of harm's way. In the master the TV sits behind the original cabinet door folder against the bulkhead. I view the TVs when laying down and the image is great.

I can send pictures via PM if interested. The removal was more work than the install but the entire project might be 2 hours, 3 max.

I just installed the same tv in my 240DA. I used this mount from BJ's

in the cabin and a second reciever for the mount up on deck so I can move the tv from inside to out side depending on the weather. this way we can watch movies or tv up in the cockpit area.

I am looking tp put a TV in my 240DA, can you post or send me pics birds.dogs.guns@gmail

Thanks
John
