haul out time is around the corner , and before I put her to hibernation , I wanted to tackle the horrible boot striping. two questions- where can I source the correct size double striping? my boat is currently bottom painted under the lifting strake all the way up to the upturn of the bow. should I just go with striping along the waterline like ive seen? or carry it up the curve? in the future when I get around to having all the previous paint media plasted , I would like to just carry the bottom paint all the way forward parallel to the water.

also , about the topside striping , please point e to a source for something similar. I know getting the oem searay stuff is crazy. as well , for the topsides , has anybody just removed the old , and "eyeballed" the new?

You won't need to eyeball the new stripes, no mater how hard you try, there will always be a shadow of the old stripe. So, easy to follow the old.

I just ordered mine at www.hullstripes.com Bill was very helpful and they can place both colors on one roll.

If the paint is already going up the bow above the water line you are stuck with it. No way to get it back to glossy gell coat under that paint. Would look like crap.

When I re-striped my 1989 340da I was steered towards a dealer/distributor of 3M stripe and tape. I was told they had the original "Disco" colors of the late '80s Sea Rays. This was 12 years ago.

I just looked the Hullstripes.com website and I wish I had had that back then. This seems to be a great source for all striping needs.

I was gonna do mine myself but I ended up paying through the a$$ to have the shop do it. I'm just glad it's done at this point.

thanks everybody for all the feedback. helps very much. winch , you mentioned you had somebody do it? this thought has crossed my mind as well. was it absolutely out of whack what they charged? we talking around $500?
I imagine its mostly time. I used that 3m eraser wheel to get the boat name off, and it made short work of it , I was estimating an hour each side for removal , then maybe 30min each side for re-application?

one more thing... even with the area under the lift strake painted on the upturn of the bow, would it look funny if I ended the striping where it starts to turn up ? or should I follow the line all the way to the prow?

It was $800 including repair of 2 gel coat dings. So prolly $500 for the stripes.

thnks , I hate to say but that's actually tempting. maybe I will do the bottom and have them do the topsides. I can tell the boat yards don't like getting into that though... its always a lukewarm answer!

OMG!!! I buy high quality stripes in bulk rolls from a local auto graphic supply company. I have the same hull you do. I spent under a hundred for the material and $150 to have them installed. I have done this twice since buying the boat as I redid the original navy/gold then updated to silver black. The rolls usually have plenty left to make those inevitable repairs. LOL
