I'm a Sundancer owner, but interested in a 20-22' ski/wakebd/day boat, too. What is is the difference between a sundeck and a bowrider?

If you look at a Sundeck next to a bowrider, you will see that the bowrider has a smaller amount (about a third of its length) dedicated to the forward space. A Sundeck has about half. On some models the Sundecks seem to have a wider beam and a little less deadrise on the prow.

Very basically...

-- The SD's have a slightly higher cockpit floor. This allows people to sit on top of the engine instead of in front. This creates more cockpit space.

-- With more cockpit space, the windshield is pulled aft.

-- With the windshield pulled aft, there is more length in the bow seating area.

-- The beam of the boat is carried further forward, creating more width in the bow seating area.

For the most part, there is no real performance difference between the two. EXCEPT that the SD's allow more weight (people) to sit further back in the boat. Because of this, and in some configurations, certain SD's have a little more trouble getting on plane.

A dedicated place for a porta-potti is another big difference that most SD's have.

Like mentioned above - look at the pics on Sea Ray's site and you'll get a decent idea.

The sun decks are much more user friendly. Much more space for people. I have a 21' bow rider and had a 240 sun deck. The sun deck was fantastic. Don't get me wrong I like my bow rider too, but the sun deck lent itself to more uses.

I always say the BR is the sports car and the SD is the SUV.

Appreciate the info. So how do they perform on bumpy roads? It sounds like the BRs have a deeper V the full length?

Actually, I found the 240 SD to be a much better ride than the bowrider. In my opinion the 240SD is the best sport boat sea ray puts out.

I would suggest you sea trial both and decide from there.

We love love love our 240 sundeck. I has a very smooth ride in any water we have been out on. Other brands of deck boats do have a rougher ride. Check out the hull design of a glaston or a crownline. The Sea Ray is almost the same hull as the bowrider. You should read the 240 SD thread if you have questions.

But to directly answer your question, you need to go to a dealer and sit in both. Which has the layout, storage, seating etc. for your needs.
