Diesel fuel polishing

Can anyone tell me if the Racor filters use a standard filter that I can go ahead and order a bunch of? This is for a 2005 420 with mechanical 8.3M's I'm in process of buying, but boat is in NC and I'm in FL so can't go look at them.
I'll have to also get the filter info on the engine mounted filters to buy a few of those as well.

It will depend on the specific racor model that you have. If you know the racor model you can reference the filter / element and micron level.

Ok just went back through engine survey and surveyor wrote 900MA for engines and 500MA for genny.
 
based on what I've read here, do I understand correctly the consensus is to put 30 micron elements in the Racor as opposed to 10 micron, is that right?

Racor=2040N for the 900 series. Choose 30 or 10 micron. 30 Micron recommended by most. Some run 10 micron.
On-engine filter is Fleetguard FF5285.
Order several of each for spares, especially since it's a new to you boat that you may not quite know the condition of the tanks. After you have run the boat for several hours, your vacuum gauges will help you decide the tank condition.

If you have (or when you get) your engine serial numbers, I would strongly recommend starting a free account at https://quickserve.cummins.com/info/index.html. You should be able to get the full set of engine manuals once you have access including specs for filters. BTW, Cummins's recommendation for my engine is for 10 micron Racors. I think that may only be true of the new common rail engines but I always like to see the spec right from the manufacturer.
