Anyone with a recommendation for removing diesel soot from around the through hull exhaust? Assuming a good degreaser? Will Simple Green do it?......haven't had much luck with it for other applications.

Thanks!

Simple green will remove any wax you have on your hull, so I wouldn't use it. A good coat of wax and regular washing with a wax-safe boat soap....like every trip out....will take care of it.

However, late model diesel Sea Rays are usually very clean running. Heavy sooting indicates a problem with unburned fuel. You need to attack this at the source not after it soots up the transom. The most frequent cause is overloading the engines. That can be a matter of prop pitch, or just the way you run the boat like fast acceleration or rpms over rated cruise for extended periods. If there is an injector problem, you would expect to see sooting on one side more than the other.

Good luck with it.............

Roll-Off works pretty well, but it does strip wax. My 3208's are not quite clean enough to avoid a bit of soot on the transom....

Spray Nine, marine degreaser, just rinses it right off.
