i am throwing this out there for general discussion:
we moved up to a 480 db, thus our 1999 330da is for sale. someone offered me a 1999 270da with trailer and 30k. i am asking 79.9k for mine, he is stuck on 45k for his.
boats are in equivalent, above average conditions. nada as well as local dealer info just dont support this deal.

Is it the wide-beam 270DA? If so, it should retail around $35K max, maybe $37K or $38K. If it's in nice condition, it should sell quickly at $30K.

If it's the "SE" model, take off about $5K.

I'm not even looking at book values. Those are real numbers of where I can see that boat selling at.

Keep in mind you'll want a little wiggle room on the price of the 270.

Just my 2 cents. I'm sure there are more buyers for a trailer-able 270da than a 330da right now.

Take the trade and the money. I think the 27da will be easy to sell in this market and with summer coming, it should sell and you will soon be a one boat owner.....

I've been looking for a 270DA in that general year (98+) for a long while now. I've seen them ranging from about $27k on up. The trailer will bring an extra couple of thousand.

If it's an SE it's essentially the same boat as my 96 - I paid a whole lot less in a good economy in 12/07. This deal seems to just give you another 'thing' to deal with - I guess if you don't need the money and don't mind selling another boat....

I don't see the advantage in still having a boat to sell. Plus, not you have to survey the 270 and trailer to ensure you are not getting stuck with a boat that can't be sold.

Best regards,
Frank

When I went to sell my last boat, I also had folks that wanted to "trade" me their boat. I didn't feel comfortable selling someone else's boat. Really, I know every scratch and issue with my existing boat, and was willing to stand behind it 100%, making it much easier to sell. I was not willing to take that kind of risk with someone else's boat.

Plus, I don't think the money he is offering looks good. If you do decide to "take a trade" - then you should really be looking at a cash difference (MIN) between NADA Retail on your boat vs. NADA retail on his. Anything less and you are just selling yourself short.

I think you made the right call in passing on this one....

IMO, if you take the trade you loose twice. First you'll be loosing on selling your boat, then you'll have to lower the price on 270 to sell it as well. Thus, if you'll just sell your boat you'll loose only once. I would stick to only one goal, which is to sell boat that you own and know well. People will know when you have confidence selling your boat. Don't take someone else's headake on yourself. Just wait for the right customer and sell your boat. The statement that it's easier to sell 270 on trailer is only speculation. You never know who walks in tomorrow. 330 is still quite affordable model for many people.

I want to agree wit Alex's statements about the 270.

I can only add that the prices quoted in the OP (esp the $45 for the 270) seem to be on the high side but then again we don't know details like gennys, hours, salt & maintenence.
