Did I get lied to?

Fragmag. I think your question was completely justified. You were not accusational, just inquisitive. That's what this place is all about. Now some of the rest of us weren't so polite (at least me). I will tell you that I have made up with my dealer after only 7 years of separation. Things change over time. They have been absolutely outstanding.

Do I think management told the workers to lie about work and screw the customers? NO! Is that what happened? Yes. Am I responsible for this activity? Only if I continue to tolerate it. Is management - yes, but they need time to figure it out. Things seem to be much better. 7 years of self maintenance tought me an awful lot.

Speaking of - Just about 90 more minutes...

After years and years of being outright lied to and cheated by our dealers, some of us are skeptical - so sue us. Of course, you would lose. It's not slander if you can prove it to be true. Sorry, just a bit edgy right now.

My big one: Charged for service including lubing spline. Spline failed 5 months later. Was told it was my fault because I didn't have the spline lubed. Tried to charge me for a couple of thousand in labor. I proved I paid them to do the work. They back pedaled off the end of the dock.

Next one: Paid for service check for engine missing and quitting. Billed $200 for test running my boat with no deficiencies noted. Next time out boat quit. I pulled the Dist Cap to find it of automotive type and full of salt/corrosion. Replaced Cap on my own and never, ever, ever, ever, took my boat back.

The list goes on and on and on and on and on.

How would you feel?

Hampton is right, skeptical is what you have to be. Here is a perfect example.

100hr service, I get emailed the invoice, I'm double billed for oil, filter, 100hr service kit etc. it's listed 2 times and then also on the bill listed again but a different type/amount of oil and kit. I was floored, but it got better when I called and asked about it the service manager said and I quote "doesn't your boat have to engines" HELLO it's a 240 sundeck have they ever had 2 engines. The service department manager doesn't even have a clue what engines come with what boats why should I trust them at all.

Wow, I wouldn't have a clue how to respond to a service manager that told me that. Well, other than goodbye.

My friends have recently purchased a rather large Sea Ray from a local Marine Max dealership. They have had NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS with there service department. I would strongly recommend finding another Sea Ray dealership to service your boat. They have yet to fix the boat properly, and the boat was down approximately 8 times last summer due to there very slow service and parts, and incorrect repairs for that matter. I know for a fact that my Sea Ray will NEVER visit a MM for service due to there experience. I found another dealership that has serviced my boat very professionally and with very little down time. Just and experience that my friends have had-thought you might want to know.

My MarineMax in Clearwater has been great. I have owned 4 Sea Rays and many times they have helped get parts warrantied that probably should not have been. I just picked up my 380 from them last Wednesday- not only was the boat spotless, they fixed a few minor items without charge. I doubt I will go anywhere else

Many have said I can get service done cheaper, but in my case, I feel I get what I pay for.

You can't paint the entire MM chain with the same paint brush..........problems you encounter are local issues attributable to the usual culprits: poor management, poorly trained personnel, inadequate experience, indifference, etc.

By and large, Marine Max is a great company who's stores are well run, do a good job and treat customers as they should be treated.

:wow: I'm am literly blown away that you have had good service from them. I've had nothing but nightmares and will never take my boat to them for service again.

We should do a map with MM service ratings. . . I wonder if it is a case of 75% good or 75% bad. . .

. . . except we need to do the map anonomously. . .cause you never know. . .

Kinda late in the thread, but it is one of my favorites...

"Did I get lied to?

Answer: were his lips moving?

Wow! After reading this thread I'm sorry to hear all the problems folks have had with the local MM service. We have been very pleased with our MM service department. They have always been prompt, reliable, and reasonable.
