Diagnostic tool

I once had my engine hooked up to a diagnostic tool which read out the hours each RPM was done at and went over all the faults etc. Of course that tool cost $7000+.
I am wondering if this tool would also do the same with marine engines? Or do they need to be marine specific?
Im interested for a mercruiser.

Otherwise does anyone know if there are cheaper diagnostic tools out there that will work with mercruiser? The one I used was STATS Sierra touch, which was awesome but buying one of them plus the leads to hardly ever be used is kind of obsurd. One in that link for $250 would be great though.

Needs to be marine specific. Rinda makes some. I have the PC software and cables - nice tool. About $650 IIRC.

Precisely what you need/want. and the cost quoted is about accurate depending on what adapters and such you need/want. The handheld is $500 plus adapters and such.
