3 wks ago I lost operation on my starboard tranny while at idle, awaiting a bridge opening, while maintaining position vs: current and traffic ! Thanks to a number of you CSR's, I was able to sucessfully get to the bottom of the problem, and I have to share this with all !

After 'limping' back to the dock, I again tried to engage the stbd side to no avail !! CSR suggestions from broken damper
to total replacement were considered; so a call to the my sales broker, Marine Max of Stuart, Fl. was made !! They gave me all the data I could have ever wanted, even to the extent of contacting Transmission, Inc in Ft. Lauderdale, their source for all of their tranny issues !! Thank god I called ! They not only gave me all the alternatives to repair and/or replace, but w/ my engine ser. #, were able to research their data base and informed me that they repaired
my boat 2 yrs prior to my purchase date, and gave me the
repair shop, US Marine Service (Greg Evans), who I immediately called !! They too had all the data on the tranny, ,and he offered to travel across the state to me here in Venice, Fl to fix it !!

During the past 2 wk., my research for repair was off the charts !! Marine Max here in Venice wouldn't even return my calls ! They were the last gp. to work on my boat, but
to the extent that I had to buy them the wrench to remove
the coupling on my shaft, they don't have much to discuss with me re: my boat !

Here's the bottom line ! I hired US Marine, and upon his initial inspection, he immediately discovered that my shaft was not
attached to my tranny at all !! In fact, upon engaging the fwd/rev., he immediately concluded that the tranny was working perfectly !! He found all four SS 7/16" bolts, 2 lock washers, and only two of the four nuts !! Tow of the bolts looked like they were twisted spaghetti ! He also discovered
a leak, but could not locate it !! Decisions,....decision ??

No way was I going any further !! I again called Marine Max! I suggested they come inspect the boat ! Outside of 2+ yrs (less than 100 hrs of running time in the ICW, only)
they refused any assistance !!

Pulled the tranny ! (Only took 3 hrs.) Inspection revealed a hair-line crack at the offset edge in the mount itsself!
With the needed replacement, we were painted, mounted, and up and running in 2 1/2 hrs. !!

Other than an oil cooler that was clogged w/ impellar frags, it runs beautifully !!

The ONLY comment I have is,.....why would a Sea Ray
Service facility replace a shaft, w/o using 'Lock Nuts' vs.
lock washers !! Damn do I feel financially screwed !

And,....by the recommended Sea Ray dealership !!:smt021
