Detailed Video on How to Remove & inspect a Bravo drive

That is a good vid. But I'm unclear on one thing . . . how far can you pull the drive off before disconnecting the shift cable? I'd hate to snap that thing. Also, how do you re-install it? Maybe it will be obvious when I'm doing it.

You can separate the drive from the transom maybe an inch or so before you need to unclip the cable.

This is the first year that I will be trying to take the Drive off. Its been two years since every thing was done, such as the Bellows and greasing... The Trim Drive fluid looks Milky so there is plenty to do this Winter...

Wow these guys are shade tree. It's not to bad of a vid if your doing it in your backyard but if you bring it to a Mercruiser Dealer you get so much more believe me I work at one. One thing they did not do is check engine alignment that is one of the first things you do when you take a drive off. Next always use bellows adhesive and always use a small amount of special lubricant 101 on all the face seals and a small amount under the shifter jaws. Also apply 24c to the six studs on the out drive. The pry bar they use to keep it level should have a piece of tubing over it so it doesn't chip paint from the drive and allow unwanted corrosion. They also did not look for exhaust flappers in the exhaust bellows and did they move the gimbal bearing at all to see if it needs to be replaced while the drive is already off. I can go on and on about the vid but for the backyard guy this might be what you want to do to save some money. Im a trained Mercruiser tech so maybe I'm being hard on these guys, but I have a whole service cart of tools to just take off stern drives. I always check shift cable adjustment while the drive is off too. Sorry just venting while the vid is good you can get a way better job at a Mercruiser dealership

Hey, "bankshotbankshot" Thanks for your input. As I posted, I am new to working on Boats. It did seam Like a lot of work on the vid. with out a lot of inspections.
I was hoping for some comments so if I decide to work on my drives myself? I can add all the comments to the Vid and Do it myself without sinking the Boat. Safety 1st.
Having 2 kids in college money is a big issue but as most things its always looks easy when a professional does the work.

Thanks John I was worried I came off harsh, but that's how I would do it. It takes me about an hour to take a drive off,get all the special mercruiser tools you need out of the tool room, inspect it, and reinstall it. If I had to record it on video and explain what I'm doing it would take 3 hours

Take the extra 2 hours, make a good video, upload it to youtube, let them put a advertisement on your video (if you get many hits on that video or your total uploaded videos they send you an invitation) then you will get a income.

My son made a video and it’s been viewed over ½ million times per youtubes counter.

There are people making a living off making youtube videos.
