Depth Sounder Installation

You can test the shoot through the hull by putting the puck in a ziplock bag full of water. You can move it around to see if you can pick up the bottom while at rest. Later, you can verify that there isn't anything from the hull that will put air between the hull and the water while on plane. If it works, epoxy it in place and you're all done. I installed one on my 250 DA and loved it. No exposed wires and no holes ANYWHERE!! I need to replace the FF on the 300 DA. It has a transom mount, so I'll probably go that route again. I do use the temp feature quite a bit. Now I just have to figure out WHAT to replace the 21 year old unit with!

I replaced the thru-hull in the Starcraft last season. Another good test of the transducer was to put a layer of Vaseline on the location site to replicate the epoxy and get rid of any air between the hull and sending unit. I spent way too much time prepping a "better" site before I did the Vaseline test on the OEM site. Better to test with Vaseline than the more permanent epoxy. It worked like a champ.

Just make sure the site is cleaned well after the test.

pics would be great, even in a couple of weeks since i am in n.j. now while the boat is in fl.
not sure when im getting back down there, work is hopefully
picking up
I finally got the transducer installed. Its to the right of the outdrive. The one on the left is the stock depthfinder. I also threw in a pic of my mounting of the unit over the cupholder. I may take off the baseplate (its just a home electric box cover) one day and trim it up for a more form-fit look.
