I recently noticed that our depth indicator is no longer operable. We're going to be trailering her tomorrow or Friday to Friday Harbor. Are there a few simple things that I can check while the boat is on the trailer?

Thanks,

Dave

I am having the same issue. Do you have a Smarcraft gauge or another brand?

Guy's check the connections under the helm there's a fuse panel there and all the dashboard electronics are powered off of that panel. Also check and see if a fuse has Blown!

Follow Marshall's instructions first.

Depth is one of the more tricky subjects. It can be introduced (as is probably the case in Dave's situation) by a piece of turd Lowrance 3500 standalone gauge. If that's stopped working it is time for a complete replacment. Lowrance does not make parts and will not service the 3500. It also used a frequency for the transducer that is no longer supported by the industry. You can try checking the connections but if it isn't that its time for a new depth system.

Madi - You need to identify how depth is getting to the SC system. It can be provided by a transducer connected to the SC harness. There may be another SC component required as well. Depth can also be supplied via a NMEA0183 connection to SC. My depth for example comes via a transducer attached to a RayMarine ST 40 depth gauge that is connected to my C80 display and then exported to SC via NMEA connection. Once you determine the pathway, you can start checking the connections.

SR495 - Same comment as for Madi. Although even if you have Smartcraft you can't be getting it from your Raymarine setup. The RL MFD does not export the NMEA depth sentence. When we had our RL depth would not display in our SC, when we upgraded to the C80, depth showed up. Are you getting depth via a ST-60, or TriData display, or do you have fish finder data on the RL?

I believe your boat has what I call "the 2 in one" transducer. If that is the case, that transducer reads both the depth as well as the sea temperature. Does the Sea Temperature still register on the Smartcraft display? If so then the transducer itself is bad.

On my boat, which has the same transducer, the sea temperature doesn't work but the depth does. The only solution is to buy a new transducer which I believe is close to $300..

Mine went. It was the read out indicator. SeaRay has 120HZ on my boat. Only replacement read out was made in England and cost $900.
I then put a fish finder on the lower helm with 50 and 200HZ head. Put the sensor in the bilge and silicone it to the floor. It works better than the $900 one

Henry, Thanks for the feedback. Mine is from the smartcaft. Nothing to do with Raymarine system. All other functions of the smartcraft system work. Just the depth sometimes displays, and sometimes it doesnt.

Henry,
I have two separate TD's. One for the Raymarine C80 which works fine, the other is for the Smartcraft. On that unit I get erratic depth readings and incorrect sea temps. I am told the Mercury transducers have been known to fail. Since the depth works for the most part and I have a backup I am waiting until the end of the season to replace.

I've had this issues for quite some time and have not been able to find the replacement transducer for depth and sea temp. Apparently it has been discontinued?

Pardon me for jumping in here. I am a new member and searched several places here but was unsuccessful in finding any help. I own a 2002 320 Sundancer. It's new to me. The depth sounder has just quit working. It is operated by the acc1 button on the right side of the instrument cluster. The LED still lights, but the depth sounder doesnt come up as before.

I inspected the panel under the helm and saw where there is a place for depth sounder power take off, but the depth sounder isn't powered from there. I inspected the back of the unit and see a 'SEATALK' cable plugged in and I assume that powers the unit. My other Raymarine units power up. It appears the seatalk cable is actually a pair of wires and it goes up over the bulkhead and following with my hand it seems like it connects to a wiring harness?

Any thoughts on where this unit is fused based on others experience?

Thanks in Advance!
