depth gauge giving wrong reading

I have the factory installed depth gauge and think its giving a wrong reading. I am somewhat new at troubleshooting things on a boat but if anyone could give me a starting point i would greatly appericate it.

by default they are reading from transducer to bottom. skeg of your drive is about 2 feet lower than depth finder reading. single frequency cheap units may read layers of seaweed as a bottom and give incorrect reading.

I get a funny reading on mine when there is a bunch of silt stured up from the bottom. Its really bad when launching. Could be a similar issue.

Is this a transom mount or shoot thru the hull version?

Help us help you.... Do you think it is showing too deep or too shallow? By how much? How did you determine this? Boat moving or sitting or both?
