the PO left a Lowrance LMS-350A depth finder/plotter and a Garmin GPSmap 225 plotter on my new-to-me 1998 215EC...i don't know anything about these units and was wondering if anyone can share some opinions about them...also they are both mounted on top of the dash in front of the steering wheel...i don't particularly like this mounting location as it impairs my line of sight when seated in the helm seat...especially the Garmin which has a bulky metal box attached that blocks off the glare on the screen....for those with similar boats to mine where do you have your depth finder and GPS mounted?....did anyone use a 'flush mount kit' to install them in the dash?....if so i would love to see some pics of the install....thanks...

Cliff,

I have a Lowrance unit mounted on the left side of the dash on an adjustable acc. ball mount from West Marine. I drilled a hole in the lower corner of the gage panel for the wires. The unit is easy to remove when not needed or for security. It can be adjusted to not block the view of the other gages.

Be careful about flush mounting or drilling in the dash as the fuse panel and wiring is all on the back side. I have a flush mounted VHF beside the am/fm radio and that works well except you need an external speaker on the top of the dash to hear it but that area would be too low to mount a GPS.

I agree that anything mounted on top blocks your view. The only thing I have mounted is a compass.
