Received a deposit on our 400 Sundancer today (non-refundable) it flew through the survey last week, so now thinking about the next boat.

1999 - 2002 Sundancer 46 looks like being the first choice, I would love to read some comments from current or previous owners, what's good and what were you not so happy with. Or have you looked for one and then bought something else..... why?

Looking forward to all replies, they will be very much appreciated.

Lots of 460 owners here...hopefully they will respond. I looked at a lot of 460's and finally bought a 450 and I am very happy with my purchase.

Graham,
I assume you are looking at a 460DA? The international designation is 515 I believe.
We've been pleased; lots of comfort; decent performance but not fast- cruise 21-23 knots typically. Try to get a hardtop.
Do some searches. Early '99 models may have had issues with thru hulls.

Thanks for the replies so far.

James, the speed really is not an issue to us, the longest trip we do is 105 miles to our favourite Islands, so an extra hour really does not matter when we are going for 10 - 14 days each time. The 400 was best at 21 knots.

Is there an engine preference for these boats, strangely enough the three boats that are most appealing of all those available in the Med or in the USA have three different power plants, Volvo 480HP, Caterpillar 3208 and the Cummins 6CTA.

Comments appreciated.

I feel your pain Graham. See the post I just posted? The 460 is a very nice boat but there is a lot to know about these prior to buying. I drove a 1999 with the smaller Cummings and TNT and the boat seemed underpowered. I have spoke with many 460 owners and they say that the boats do come onto plane and cruise in the mid-20's. The Hardtop and thruster appear to be a very nice option. PM me if you need any other details...
