We have just sold our 1988 Sea Ray Sorrento 23 and upgraded to a 2007 240 Sundeck. Great boat! However, I have a few design concerns. 1.) Forward anchor locker door opens the wrong way, should open side to side instead of front to back, has anyone corrected that situation, if so how? 2.) Cockpit storage locker door only opens to about 45 degrees, anyone figured how to use a different gas spring to open to 90 degrees? What are your recommendations for VHF and chartplotter? VHF antenna? Surface or flush mount to left of helm wheel for GPS? Ski mirror? Any imput appreciated.

Welcome aboard. Yep the 240SD is one of Sea Rays best sport boats ever. Have you read the 240SD thread yet?

1. Can be problem, but once you get used to it, you don't even think about it any more. Nice to have it open from the front when you have beached it and need to get the ladder out.
2. Mine goes more then 45???
3. I like Garmin
4. Short SS side mounted.
5. You can see in my pictures how I have mine mounted.
6. I use a nice big stick on to the windshield above the head door.

I think on this model there is dedicated area for vhf ant. mount- stb side fwd of steering wheel above gunnel (you should find small flat area - it is not a imperfection)

Thanks, that's the area I had scoped out.

Thanks Chuck1,
Where did you mount the GPS? The flat dash area to the left of the helm seems best. Did you surface mount or flush mount??

Here is a pictures before I got the finishing touches on it with the clam shell cover.

The black box for the transducer/depthfinder is under the helm in the storage area where the fuses are. The VHF is also hooked into it for DSC.

Here is a link to some of the other pictures.

Here's a pic of my VHF...if I had it to do over I'd have mounted it where Chuck has his.

You can see I flush mounted my Garmin chartplotter to the left of the steering wheel. While it looks good there it's very difficult to see while underway. It needs to be on top of the dash or close to it for better visability.

Wow! Have you been busy. Great job on your installs and good ideas. Did you consider mounting your Magma at the sink module so the BBQ could be rotated outboard over the water. Any probs with it hanging over the platform? Another idea, I like what Cobalt has done at their aft swim platform. They run a substantial railing around the platform as close to the water as possible. I'm going to check with my canvas guy to see if he can bend two rails on each side of the ladder and running to the stern, maybe 1in SS rail.

Good tip, hadn't thought of the visability problem and the flush mount VHF is slick. I was thinking of the Garmin GPSMAP 536 which might look pretty clunky up on the dash, it's about six inches square plus the mount.
