Today was my first time on my boat this season. upon ariving at the dock my slip neigbor, pointed out a dent in my gelcoat just below
the starboard cockpit widow above the rub rail. The dent is approximatly 4"high by 10"long I ever thought fiberglass could dent
like this without a crack of some sort. If anyone has seen this type of
problem either a defect from the factory or from a storage rash, please let me know. Also if anyone knows how to fix this type of problem please chime in. p.s. I have owned this boat for 4 years
and have never noticed this before, additionaly the boat is stored
indoors heated during the winter and handled only by my marina.

What kind of boat? What year? Are you sure it's a dent? There are some areas on Sea Rays exactly like you described where it looks like they were going to put an emblem or something. Is it truly dented, or just flattened out where the surrounding area is rounded? It sounds like it was designed in.

it could be normal. I know all 280DA's have one right where you described, maybe not as big, but it's there and not on the other side. maybe part of a mold thingamabob.

I am not sure about your boat, but most likely this is the area designed by sea ray for installation of vhf antenna base.
When boat is waxed and shinny it is very difficult to see that
flat spot.

Thanks for getting back to me about this. John the boat is a 2002 280 DA that I have owned since 04, I never noticed this before.
I will speak to my dealer later this week and look at some other 280's. It may be a design feature, I'll let you know

It's on every 280DA i've ever looked at, and i've looked at a lot. it's normal, for whatever reason.

Got one on my '04 280. Always wondered what caused it. Good to know it's normal, thanks T.T.

Reviving an old thread here... We hope to be closing on our new 2005 280DA in the next few days. We saw her this weekend for the first time without the shrink, and man, is she a looker! :smt038

The only thing we noticed that we weren't thrilled with was a vertical dented area, port side, above the rub rail, just aft of the fuel filler. Is that the location of the crease that all 280DAs have? This is the only thread on here that I can find that talks about this!
