My oldest went from went from spending the night on the boat tonight to spending the night at WMBG Community Hospital in less than two hours today....two horses spooked while she was walking them, one kocked her down, the other stepped on her knee. She had to drag herself from the pasture to the gate before a ferrier saw her. She has a broken Tib at the knee, she's in surgery now to have a plate and pins installed. No boating for her, or dad for awhile. I'm gonna need some decompression time and soon!

So sorry to hear that. My wife was very seriously injured by a horse, 3 years ago on our property.

8 days in the hospital ans still has lasting effects. I have little use for them.

wow , yeah i too hope she recovers well , and i hope she still likes horses and gets out there and ride .

Don't worry bout that we all love to ride....

Sorry to hear...my youngest had a lower leg break several years ago, and they installed a rod in her leg to be removed 6-8 weeks later. I guess it depends on where the break is. Good luck...

They installed a plate and three screws. The stables she works at considers her as a contracted person (1099 at the end of the year) so they don't carry insurance for the staff. Thank god we have the good stuff. She's out of work for the next 6 to 8 weeks, she's upset about that and a performance she was to do this Tuesday. She's worked around horses since she was 14 and loves it so I don't expect that to change. We are supposed to be in Lewis Beach De. for her 18th, I guess we will have to see.

Wayne...she loved you card, thank you

Another day at the hospital.... They want her to get more PT before she can go home. For all those who have been thru this, what should I be doing to get the house ready for her. I've moved all work off next week, except the teak I'm doing in my shop. Stairs or out I know, but what else should be done?

How is She doing ??.

I'm guessing she/him is trying to say they're sorry for hurting her.

Deb was in her late 50's when she was recouping from her multi-break femur with a 13" rod & 3 screws. Walker for her, with daughter being young, probably crutches. I just set her up a comfortable spot on the first floor, near the powder room, winged it from there. After a couple of weeks & physical therapy kicked in, she wanted her independence. If your daughter is like Deb, she will push herself to get rid of the crutches & cane as fast she can. We wish her well & best of luck.

Shes doing ok, they let her come home yesterday and it took three of us to get her in the house JCCFD Sta.1 came up and helped with that, I owe them big time! We set her up downstairs and the PT folks are due to come out today sometime. I've taken this week off from the jobs I had schdualed, but will be doing teak out in my shop so that I stay busy. Momma takes over on Thrus and Friday so that I can get out of the house for a bit. Kat, my help at work, just sent tons of food, so I don't heve to cook for awhile. I'm really gonna need a boat ride by this weekend...thank you everyone. I will update again later

Sorry about her injury , hope she heals well. You might wanna put a temporary grab bar in the bathroom just to help her up and down and the pt folks might recommend a walker with wheels for now. Best of luck to her!!!

The way our house is set up, things are kinda tough. The house was built around 1780 and the bathroom was added in the eary 30's, it's layout makes this handicap harder on her. We are making it work. PT person will be here to evaluate the house around 3, that should be a blast

Being a Pediatric PT I can tell you first hand that children are VERY resilient!! One of the big things to watch for is orthostatic hypotension. This is a sudden drop in blood pressure when she stands up. With all the pain meds they probably have her on and the increased sedentary time it is not uncommon to become dizzy & faint when standing up. Tell her to take a minute after she stands before commencing with her crutches or whatever assistive device they give her. Crutches are better for around the house since the patient can transition easier through doorways. The standard bathroom doorway is only 24" wide which makes it tight with the standard walker. Once she is comfortable on crutches if she needs to utilize stairs the PT will train her for that. "Up with the good & down with the bad" , kind of a heaven & hell type phrase to help her remember which foot to lead with on the stairs. Going up, the "good" foot is placed on the next step and then the patient steps up. Going down, the "bad" foot goes first utilizing the unaffected limb to lower her weight down while balancing with the crutches. I generally stated to bring the crutches after the step up and to place them on the step below before stepping down, although, this is a general rule and some individuals find it more comfortable the other way. I'm sure with a little PT and all the support that you guys are giving her, she will be fine. Best of luck!

Thank you. She's on more Oxie....it is making her dizzy to stand but it passes after standing for a few. pT is due here in an hour, so we will see
