None of my boats have ever come with deck plate keys. I'm always fumbling to find something to use to open the water and fuel caps (usually a pair of needle-nose pliers).

I just bought a 10-pack of Perko plastic deck plate keys on eBay for about $21 including delivery. Seems like a small price to have a handful of these suckers which no doubt will want to jump in the drink from time to time.

I've had the same deck fitting cap key for more than 30 years. I keep it in a small locker in the cockpit so it's handy. It has a large float attached to it with a big loop that can be snagged with a boat hook if it goes overboard. It's too big to forget at the gas dock. I believe it was free as some gas dock attendant left it on my boat when I bought fuel years ago.

I always have a deck key in my sail bag but mostly open the deck plates with a quarter, works every time.

mine stays on my key ring flot with all my other boat keys.. need to have the engine turn off to fuel anyway

Good idea, but the keys on a 360 (and many others) are located in the breaker panel down in the cabin.

I wanted the plastic version to help ensure I don't scratch anything.

Now with ten of them I can be BMOC and hand them out to the needy...
