While heading to Key West Monday in 3 to 5 foot seas, we lost one of the three dead light windows (starboard side). It just popped out. We were only at 12 to 15 knots, not pounding the haul at all.

In December, were were heading back from the Keys in 3 to 5's when we noticed water coming in on the port side. When we got back to Cape Coral, I had our mechanic take a look at the windows on that side. They told me they were breaking loose. I had those two replaced.

This time the middle one on the starboard side popped out.

Has anyone else had this happen.

I am going to go ahead and have the one missing and the remaining three replaced just in case.

This seems pretty unlikely for a 2 and a half year old boat.

That is surprising! What did you use to plug the hole for the rest of the trip? Unfortunately I'm sure these windows are put in with more thought put on appearance than actual construction and performance. I wonder what type (if any) of reinforcements are in the hull sides around the windows to prevent any flexing that would cause the issue your having.

I would 'definitley' get your dealer involved with this one....and I would imagine they would get Sea Ray onboard pronto! Those windows shouldn't just pop out in heavy seas....heck, that's when you need them most....otherwise you could sink the boat.......You may also want to consider having the hull surveyed....

We purchased the boat a year and a half ago still under warranty with 150 hours on her. We had a full survey completed including the hull. Nothing significant was found. We are still under the 5 year extended warranty through Brunswick.

The manufacturer of the windows must know something was wrong as they are sending the windows without cost to our mechanic.

I suspect that there were air voids in the seal. As the seal dried, less and less was holding them in. A little twist of the hull during our trip and out came the window.

Ken,
I would be mega pissed. I would be calling Sea Ray to find out just what's going on. You should not be having a problem with those windows on that new of a boat.
Remember the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Ken,

Are these the elliptical type "port hole" windows that don't open? I have a pair in the fore cabin that are leaking, the port side is the worst. I noticed rust and salt around the perimeter of these. MM is going to replace the seals but the first ones that arrived were incorrect.

Jack,

We will be contacting Sea Ray. I am not sure yet how much our warranty is covering yet.

Yea kinda mad. We were looking forward to that trip to the Keys.

FYI, they should be in next week. I hope nothing else get in the way of the Bahamas trip.

Mike,

If you look at the 48 that is in the upper right corner of this web page, you will see three large windows.

The one that blew out was the middle one on the starboard side.
Just a few weeks ago we replaced the front two one the port side.

I'm curious how these things are designed. How is the glass (or lexan?) affixed / held in place to the frame?
Have they changed the design-to solve the problem- or are they "fixing" them the same way they were originally?

Given that half of them have failed so far, I wouldn't be accepting of them just slapping them back in the way they were. They'll just fail again...good luck, I hope they make it right. That's a beautiful boat, BTW...

Hey TOBNPR,
How is the weather there in NPR? We just moved from Hudson last year. I am missing Anclote something bad!! My in-laws lived in Sea Forest. Looks like you may be close by.

Chris:

Moved FROM Hudson?? Hey, that's the wrong direction, LOL...
Actually (not to rub it in or anything) we're having "Chamber of Commerce" weather; blue sky, low humidity, and high of 87 for the next two weeks.

Yup, water temps up to 75 or so- almost time to hit the "Sandbar". You're right- been a Sea Forest resident for nearly 20 years. Drop a line if you ever come back to visit :)

My in-laws live in Gulf Harbors which I believe is near Sea Forrest. As mentioned weather is nice down here.

Ken,

Thanks. We have these types as well but I believe they are smaller, hopefully we won't have any issues.
