I can't believe I am trouble again after 2 hydro locks my first 2 years of boating. (Bad riser / Bad water pump) New Heads, Oil Pan.....Engine has been running Great..No Oil use, No Knocking or Ticking.....The story:
I was running for a 1/2 hours hit a couple of large waves The Boat alarm went off. I looked down and saw NO OIL PRESSURE!! So I shut the Engine down. Checked oil and it was OK,
So, I got Towed back.
Once engine was cool, I re-started the engine Started right up but still No oil pressure, so I turned it right Off.
I thought it might be a wire but I see there is 3 different sensors. Not sure if the engine shut off itself before i did first. So 2 sensors go bad, Ugh. They can not all be bad?:smt089

Oil Pressure Switch for Fuel Pump Cut-out

I would try a mechanical gauge to find out a true reading of oil psi. Then go from there.

Yes, Thanks, That was going to be my first stop in the AM. to "Auto Zone" to see if they have some kind of Pressure kit.

Lets hope your not making metal and plugged a sender! Pull that oil filter for sure and inspect the filter paper. This is something you need to know first in your trouble shooting process.

Okay, thanks. So, remove the Oil filter and Cut it open. Not a problem since the Oil filter is on top. John G.

If she didn't rattle right before it shut down I think the oil pressure it not actually zero. When that happens they rattle real bad.Like the valve train is loose.....which it sorta is without oil.

Re: Dead in water AGAIN! No oil Pressure!! ( ok for now)

Hi, I started with cleaning all the connections to the Oil pressure sender and the Oil Alarm switch plus the Gauge connectors. The two connection on the senders and switch where corroded.
The Engine Oil pressure is running fine now. Actually the pressure has never been higher 38psi. at first before fully heated. The pressure at first never started that high ( 32psi)
Ran boat for 1 hr today and all seams well:thumbsup:!!!!!
Since the Oil pressure drop started after I hit a Mega wave could i have sucked some Air into the Oil pump pick-up????

No I doubt you sucked an air bubble from the lil tsunami. But it does sound like you've fixed your oil pressure issue. Glad to hear it wasn't any thing real bad.

Hello..

I had a very similar problem on Sunday... my oil guage went from 40 to 0 back to 40 and all in between and stayed at 0 all this in less than a minute just after 15 minutes on the water.. However, no alarm went off!! I did stop the engine, check the oil and all was OK ( I did change the oil/filter a few days before). Started up again and the guage read 40. Again 10 minutes into the ride, the guage started the same routine. Stop engine, went to engine room found the leads going to each sensor, unplug them, plug them up again and no more incidents until the return home when the guage read 40 to 15 and back to 40 and stayed on 40 for the rest of the 30 minute ride.

It has to be the sensor and/or the actual guage going bad since the alarm did not go off. Which of the 2 sensors runs to the guage? the pressure sender located on the bottom port side of the engine (gold cylinder looking) or the pressure switch for alarm located on the top of the engine?

thank

The Pressure sender runs the Gauge. Did you check the wire connectors? I use some Alum Sandpaper to clean the connector and rolled up a piece to clean the female piece. I was thinking of changing the Oil pressure sender but it would not budge with a pair of vice grips. I did not want to crush It, I assume that you need to remove the Oil or have the replacement for a quick change. Mine was painted black ( not original looking paint)

I'm glad you're up and running with minimum expense, John. It's sad that you had to be towed due to corroded connections. But, I guess you still have to be thankfull that the repare was minor.

I got towed by a friend on Sunday to my slip due to loss of Oil pressure I was only a 1/2 mile away. The last time the alarm went off and I tried to restart it it cost me a new $Starter. By the way: I got Towed ( Sea Tow) on Monday (Mem. day) due to a problem with my drive ( No reverse ) Another happy Boating post. John G

Still waiting for an answer back from the mechanic, Boy the parts for the drive don't look cheap. Example:
