I need a dc step up converter to provide 19v to an LED TV from a 12v source. I have found a few on the Internet. Has anyone used one before and recommend a place to purchase one? Thanks.

Assuming the TV came with 120 volt AC to 19 volt DC power supply I would just buy one of the very small 12-120 inverters and plug your power
supply into it. Might not be as efficient but your not using much power anyway.

Some are noisy,, you may want to install it in the engine compartment and wire it forward.
Run it first, make sure it works and check the noise.

Did you contact the MFG about 12 volt direct options?

We have two big screens that are DC powered and they work fine between 12 and 24 volts.
Perhaps check all your options first.
Jus' sayin'.

I could just use an inverter but you are correct it is no where near as efficient to covert to 120 then convert again to 19v.

I would really like to use a DC step converter instead of using an DC-AC inverter.

The only specification I have at this time is the 19v output marked on the in line converter that came with the TV. It is a Vizio unit. I might try is on straight 12 volts and see. I will see if I can get information in more detail from the manufacturer.

One of my buddies told me that he tried to use straight 12 v on a TV that did not come with an external brick to change from AC to DC. When he opened up the TV he found that some areas of the TV are on 12 v some on 19 and I think even a third voltage was running.

Look at the supplies for lap tops. A lot of laptops run at 19 volts so it you can find a laptop power brick that is ment to plug into you car's cigartte lighter you should be OK. Just check the current ratings.
And be sure not to install it in the engine compartment as was suggested by someone else. These things are not ignition protected.

Please make sure anything you install in your engine compartment is rated to do so. Many devices will work to accomplish your goals, but are not safe to install back there.
