Does anyone have a DC air inflator/deflator for thier towables that they are happy with? Thanks

I've got a Coleman portable unit that's about 4 years old. Sort of like this one:
http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=5990C450&categoryid=10060

It does a pretty decent job. It's a little on the loud side but only takes a minute or two for each float (one person lounger sized). It even survived being completely submerged in water when a transom seat locker got flooded by a torrential rain.

I'm considering the installation of a more permanent sort. One that just has an air hookup and switch inside a locker and the pump down below. Both to cut down on noise and to eliminate the space and clutter of the portable pump. My thinking is to just use a cheapie from Costco (or harbor freight) and assume it'll get eaten up by moisture sooner than later. I'll use marine-grade stuff for the switch and hose interconnects. I'll mount the pump on marine-grade plywood (or starboard PVC) and make it easy to swap out the pump itself.

Thanks for the reply. I will probably get that one or something similar. Seems like any situation (especially in boating) can be made complicated. I learned last weekend that it is bad to try and tow your daughter with an under-inflated tube. The thing sinks when you take off. The AC chargers have the power but then you have to transport the inflated tube to the boat. The DC chargers will work off of the boat. However, the tube companies seem to think that they do not provide enough volume and pressure by themselves. Seems like the solution is to blow it up at the boat with a DC pump and finish it off with a hand pump.

There ain’t no other pump like this pump! Use it to inflate toys or high pressure floor in your dingy, it’s perfect! Set the pressure you want and it turns itself off when reached. Great for inflatable boat tubes, 3.3 psi, then reset the limit to 11.1 psi for the floor. Has two pumps internally, one blower type, one piston type to make quick work of it. Pricey, and works better direct to battery (clips included), but I’ve tried the cheapies and this is the one …uh, don’t drop it in the water. OK?

I bought one of these for the boat:

http://www.homedepot.com/prel80/HDUS/EN_US/diy_main/pg_diy.jsp?prod_id=100096992

Husky
Jumpstarter System
Model HSK037HD
Price: $89.99/ea

Instant vehicle startup complete with air compressor and 400 watt power inverter. Unit includes digital readout, built-in 110 volt charger, LED area light and a DC to DC charger.

• 450 amp jumpstarter.
• 400 watt inverter.
• 260 PSI air compressor w/ attachments.
• 12 volt power outlet.
• 3 LED area worklight.

I've not tried out the compressor yet but having an all in one unit (although it's heavy) is nice to have incase your batteries die you can give yourself a jump.

Morpheus,

That thing is slicker than the grease from BBQ brisket!! (stealing a line form a song.. )

I have an inverter tucked away in my Excursion which is awesome, but to have one, plus a compressor, plus a jump box all in one, on the boat is slick.

I have an inflater on the boat that works great, compared to the alternative, but the hose doesn't connect real solid anymore to air leaks around the sides but it still inflates and deflates well. On a boat like ours though, to have all that in one bundle, with plenty of space to stow it, is awesome.

I agree w/ jim, that is cooler than the other side of the pillow. I'm headed to home depot to swap out my current jump pack with that one.

Since I'm at work and can't weigh it for you I'll have to estimate

The unit is about as wide as your keyboard and it has a pretty good size battery in it not as big as the one(s) in your boat but it's got a good heft to it. One of those things you see and then when you pick it up you go woah that's pretty heavy.

I'm terrible at guessing weight and distance so I don't wanna though out a number and it be totally off.

haha this is funny I was gonna through out 20lbs but then said naa I better not cause I'm probably wrong. I just looked on home depots site under specifications for it and it says:

Assembled Weight (In LBS) 22

Guess I'm not so bad at guessing as I thought I was.

All the reviews on home depot's site are 5 out of 5

Looks cool, but what are you going to inflate to 260psi? Have you tried to inflate toys or a dingy? High psi is nice but volume is just as important ...who wants to listen to their compressor running forever? Does it have a pressure shut off or do you have to watch it?

If your boat trailer or tow vehical is low on air it would be good for that.

As for a shut off I don't know. I just got it and charged it up have not had a chance to play with it.

I use one from the home depot that is made by Riobi and works with the 18 volt battery pack from my drill. It has one side for pressure and one side for volume. Small and light weight.

Tommy got a new toy; thanks for the tip;
