Can anyone suggest a good easy to use, sleek profile davit system (non-hydraulic)? It's for a 10' hard bottom with a 15 hp yamaha 4 stroke. I'm looking for something that doesn't get in the way of the swim ladder when the dinghy is in the water. Of course, ease of moving the dinghy in/out of the water and the stability while under way stability are key.

Did you ever get a Davit system for your boat ,I also have a 48 SD and looking at the Nautly system

I was not familiar with the Nautley. I spent some time today and was trying to decide between the Hurley and the new St Croix -- http://davit.com/roll-on820PullOn.html. Do you know the wight of the Nautley sytems and the pros/cons of their different systems? If anyone any of these, I'd love to hear about your experiences.

Yes, I ended up buying the Nautley system. Craig at Nautley was very helpful and had recommended the HD Slide-On extended for my boat/dinghy set-up. If you call him with the specifics (make/model of the dinghy), he will help choose the right system. The hull design of the dinghy (how deep of a "v") is a factor. I didn't have to tell him the specs, he seems to already know the specs of most dinghies. I installed it a few days ago -- an easy do it yourself install and it works great.

Would love to see some pictures of this installed...

Thanks,

Mike

I have found the thing you need to guard against most is big seas which can have a tendancy to wrap around your transom and hit the dinghy or outboard motor. So, the higher the dinghy is off the water, the better. The shorter the dinghy is, the less likely this is to be a problem. Ours is a 13.5 foot Zodiac, and I have made every effort to hoist it as high as possible. We have a Roskelley/Olsson "monster" davit system.

Not my first choice, but it came with the boat.

I've taken 8 pictures of the old system and the new Hurley system so you can see the huge improvement. Shoot me an email at mike@hansen64.com and I'll email anyone interested the pictures. Replacing my 10'6" Alliance with a 9'2' and changing out my old custom bracket with a Hurley system has lightened my load on the platform by about 135 pounds. The waterline came up about an inch (maybe more) Interestingly enough, the new Achilles new lightweight dinghy has just as much interior space as the old dinghy. The deep v from bow to stern also gives it a better ride than my old Alliance. The Hurley installation was a breeze (other than an hour or so to find and retrieve a part I dropped in the water)! I still have a couple of the old brackets to remove next time the diver comes out to bottom clean the boat. Other than that, the job is finished and I'm very please with the new set-up.
