We are planning a trip to Davis Park, Fire Island, New York, for the weekend of July 18, 19 and 20 to see a friend's band that will be playing at the Casino Bar on Saturday the 19th at 2pm. Anyone interested in making the trip over? I know Davis Park does not accept reservations, even for groups, but we can give it a shot. My wife works with one of the band members. They are a rock band, who is pretty good from what I heard. I have not seen then myself so no promises. We are planning head over Friday morning and will have our son (age 5) and dog (Black Lab mix) with us.

I'm always up for live music, we may take you up on that, we frequent Davis a few times a year. Our kids are a little older and my dog is a pita(he loves other dogs) so we'll see. What's the name of the band I'll google them

We may take this up as well. Could be a cool impromptu meetup. I took the family to Davis last weekend, and we hung at the beach with live music in the background.

If Davis fills up there is always Watch Hill right next door; probably a better family atmosphere there too; nightlife definitely Davis Park, you can always walk back and forth.

As long as you got the 'skeeter repellent!
You got a definite maybe from us as well.
FYI - for the party croud, That weekend is "Hemstock Cove" weekend

Out of the 2, I prefer WH. In fact that is where the boat is now haha

Great family oriented place. This place is known for its bugs....head inside for dusk....come out later and it's fine

Davis has a great short walk to the beach if I remember WH you need a golf cart, we prefer Davis but am willing to give WH another try this season. Ron can you postpone hemstock? We have parties all weekend !!!

Do i hear a commitment that Mirage will be burning some fuel and venturing out to FI?

Thanks for the responses. We are happy that people are interested in going.
Joe, I believe the name of the band is the Belairs. They appear on the Casino Bar's event Calender for Saturday at 2pm. My wife will confirm just to make sure. From what I know, they are a rock and roll band.
We would like to stay at Davis Park this year since we did stay at Watch Hill last year (want to change things up a little). As everyone has said, we do remember the bugs being bad a Watch Hill at dusk. That being said, if Davis is crowded or full, we have no problem going to Watch Hill.
Ron, Paul and SDLEO26, we hope all of you can make it.
ron, what is "Hemstock Cove"?

Hemlock cove along the state channel turns into a weekend fest.
I too would prefer Davis if we can make is, but its an easy walk either way

Think the wifey has to work that weekend. May need to stay local.

All of you Davis Park lovers, Just remember any wind from the north, northwest and you are screwed! That marina will have 3' whitecaps in there. Been there, done that. Any southern winds and you should be golden! Good luck!!

Sitting now at "bug hill" and having a terrible time. ...I agree , stay away

I'll take the skeeters over the waves. They make spray for them. What can you do about 3 1/2' whitecaps smashing you off of the pilings? Do they make a spray for that?
DP is great for day trips but, it's a gamble overnight. You roll the dice & place your bets. Oh, and btw: I have been bitten by many a mosquito at DP too. You know those things can fly, right?

Yeah they fly over from WH !!! Haha. You keep them over there! What do you do when ypur on your 1hour walk from the beach to your boat and you didn't plan the time correctly? Then you have to RUN, dragging all your belongings behind? Dropping some things but in too much pain from the bites to stop and gather them up some small children included, you have to close your boat up like a nuclear holocaust is upon us if your lucky? The children didn't jump into the bay to escape the onslaught of bites.

With all jokes aside, it would be cool if we could all get together in the vicinity . Just checked the calender and we can't even make it that weekend! Maybe we'll see you another time .
