Hello everyone, this is my first post. I have an '04 SeaRay 260 Sundancer and am moving it from Dana Point to Marina Del Rey. I know it is not a long trip but I was wondering does anyone have any advice to offer on the trip up there? It will be the furthest I have gone with her yet. Thanks in advance for any help.

Looks like about 2 and a half Hours. I just went from Blaine WA to Vancouver BC in the open waters of the Strait of Georgia. It's not quite open ocean as you'll face but it can get nasty. I think the key to your trip will be watching the weather and timing it properly. I also imagine you'll need to stay off shore far enough to avoid breaking waves but close enough to stay within safe distance of assistance if needed.

I looked at it on Google and it doesn't look too bad, pending a decent weather day.

I have done the trip many times, just check the winds and the weather bouy's at noaa. It is an easy trip if you watch the winds and swells. Also, as you go past san pedro/long beach be aware of the ship/ferry traffic. There are plenty of places to stop for fuel/food or whatever along the way.

I do Newport to MDR regularly. Long Beach does have the shipping lanes, but assuming you don't have any fog, it is some good coastal crusing. There is a break water when you get to MDR. You can enter from either side. Are you moving the boat up here, or just making a weekend or day trip? Where are you slipping the boat?

I live in West Hollywood, and am tired of driving to Dana Point, as beautiful as it is down there. I have a slip in the Marina Harbor Anchorage, starting May 1st. I see you are in MDR.

Small world. I live in West Hollywood. Marijna Harbor Anchorage is nice. When I had my 26 I kept it there. They are high in price for MDR though. I keep mine at Pier 44 now (Basin G). Not nearly as nice, but way cheaper. I'm paying $500 a month for my 38 LOA. Stop by anytime for a beer. I'm in slip 1809.

How often do you head over to Catalina?

West Hollywood, that's funny! The slip we have is only $6 more than we where paying in Dana Point, and you're right, it is a nice marina. I know another guy in your marina, big, tall black fella, Kev. English guy. Never made the Catalina trip, yet, I am sure I will though, before the end of this summer. Will take you up on that beer! I am hoping to move the boat on May 9th, weather permitting.
