DA 380 manifolds

I have a 2003 380 with 8.1s. The aluminum manifolds have some salt accumulation, which caused an overheat condition on the outboard manifold in the port engine. My service guy has told me that the factory has a retrofit cast iron manifold (around $500 per manifold) that is now the recommended part.

Is this the case? Was there a recall or TSB on this issue that I somehow missed? Any info on this issue would be appreciated.

The same thing happened to me on the 2002 380. At the time, they told me it was a wear item, and had to be replaced every 3 years. I had the boat about a year at that time.

After all kinds of whining and complaining, and a big bill for labor to try to clean them all up (with no success), they were able to warranty them under the engine warranty as failure due to premature corrosion.

That was a couple fo years ago (I got the boat in 2003). I don't think there was any cast iron parts that they replaced on mine.

As a wear item, there is no TSB or warranty, unless, possibly, you have a great relationship with your dealer.

8.1S engines have aluminum manifolds??? Are you sure? I thought mine are cast lined with ceramic and stainless elbows.
