If anyone is interested in doing their own cutlass bearing, need help and the tool, I'd be happy to assist. A few years ago I bought a tool from www.strutpro.com. (Excellent investment) and have done many bearing changes for friends. Takes about 1 1/2 hours to do both. With SCUBA can be done in water.
I'm really surprised more people don't do their own boat!
Can change on 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 shaft. Without pulling shaft.
Check out the Strutpro site for method.

I am planning to change mine this winter,my boat is in heated storage in Baycity.Would i need a seperate tool for prop removeal?Do the shafts need to be pulled,i want to have them checked out anyway.Where do you get the new bearings and how do i know what size to order?I was going to have the marina give me a quote for this work but if i can save a substantial sum of money i could diy i guess. The marinas around here seem to add time siting how difficult "your" job was compared to normal, dosent matter what the job is.I had a transmission r&i done and was charged twice the quoted price because he had to set up a make shift engine lift which consisted of a small chainfall and a wooden beam placed across the aft cockpit floor and scracthing it all up.

Nemo was kind enough to help me change mine a couple of years ago and his strutpro tool worked great. I got the bearings from Algonac Casting (Algonac Michigan). They don't usually sell to the public, but allowed me to pick up a pair and pay cash. They seemed to know what size my boat needed once they knew the shaft diameter and boat type. Yes, you need a prop puller in addition to the strutpro tool (unless Nemo has the prop pulling attachment for the strutpro).

Definitely a DIY job with the right tool!!

If needed, I also have a prop puller. This entire procedure really is a piece of cake.
Too many people have a dealer do the work and 'take it right in the transom'

Well i might like to borrow or rent the tools from you and mabey hear any horror stories about this job but not untill after christmas.right now i am waiting for the phone to ring all day to hear the status of my sisters health problem, life or death.

You don't have a magic tool for the drip less replacement on my 330 w vdrives do you? Lol

Had a good season, but didn't get your way but once. We had a 7yr old traveller with us and actually did some anchoring in Lk St Clair, then visited Metro Beach. Quite an experience for her since it was her first trip to the USA! Good little traveller.

Should get together though - next season for sure!

Nemo ,the procedure looks pretty simple.I think algonac castings moved to maryland this week? I will get the bearings ordered from someone this week, they are the Boss bearing 1.5 x 2 x 6.I cant belive all the different prices out there for the same bearing, ebay is higher than most everyone else.Send me a pm to inform me of how to go about borrowing your strut pro.I live about 1 hr from you in Flushing .Glen
