IMG_3345.JPG IMG_3499.JPG Beware, I have purchased several snap in carpet sets over many years and was generally pleased until now. Less than 90 days old and the backing (premium) is starting to peel and leaving black material on the deck. I reached out to snap in carpet.com and this was their response- "That is very normal. That can happen from simply dragging the carpet accidentally while trying to lift up. Unfortunately their is nothing we can do. Thank you" when I responded again I was told again they are not going to do anything at all to rectify and that they "hope I have a good day".
Before I plaster my experience all over the internet can anyone share their experience, opinions or advice? Am I being unreasonable expecting at the very least a promise of future support ?

That's ridiculous Russ!! I generally get about 5+ years before my carpets even START to display those type characteristics and my previous carpet went about 8 years! I would contact your credit card company and see if there is anything that they can do. What kind of warranty did they offer at the time of purchase?

snap in has a decent reputation from what I gather in asking around. However, if that carpet is only 90 days old then something is definitely wrong; it should last a few years before that crappy black plastic backing starts falling apart. I suspect that the physical backing they used in the assembly of your carpets was old and starting to degrade before it was even applied to the carpet. I'd press on with complaints to the right person there before going on a negative social media campaign.

I think the black rubber backing is terrible and most of the NewWave alternative backings aren't much better. They all seem to fall apart. In my case, they are never used for more than 5 months a year, never get wet, and are in sun perhaps a total of 30 hours a summer. The white nuwave stuff breaks down, but doesn't stick to the fiberglass at least. My next carpet will be the Infinity which I'm pretty sure will finally resolve this issue.

The backing in the photo is common latex rubber backing with a mild texture. The only way to slow down the degrading is to wax your deck to prevent the carpet from sticking.....but if you gotta wax the deck, why even use carpeting?

I am a huge advocate for the folks at Corinthian. They use a bonded PVC backing that won't stick to the deck and will not come off. Heck, I think you can drag it down the road and not damage the backing.

i would be livid.....I would definitely continue to press them for some sort of resolution including getting your money back if no solution can be found.....maybe go as far as getting an attorney write them a threatening letter on your behalf....

if worse comes to worse and you are forced to live with this crap then maybe you can apply some type of coating on the rubber backing such as a clear coat of some type to prevent the backing from sticking to the deck....

or you could use some plastic sheeting in between the backing and the deck but what a pain in the as!........

good luck....

I would be livid as well. My brother in law ordered new carpet from same people. He has the white rubber backing.

It was stuck to his 330s floor (bought this summer), and they are sending him a new rear section...

I plan to order correnthian with the felt back and teak lok sometime for next year. we will see.

I have had Corinthian woven vinyl carpet with the felt like backing for 3 years now and it is still perfect....just took mine out this past WE and scrubbed it good on the dock....absolutely no sign of the backing sticking or failing in any way....

I wish I could have done your boat in Infinity PVC for you, I have the templates. Hopefully they will replace it.

I too have the bonded PVC backing and it is rock solid.... The backing you show in your picture is the less expensive stuff. I do have a custom piece of carpet for my swimstep for use while on station with your backing and it's 8 years old now. It hasn't failed like yours at all, but it sees very little action.

Thank you for all of your responses, as I suspected, it's not normal or acceptable. It seems now suddenly, after I have requested management or ownership contact that thier server is rejecting my email! I will keep everyone posted on my progress.

Wow! From bad to worse! Definitely time to call your credit card & reverse the charge. Something tells me that they will actually reach out to you after that!

Update! A very nice woman, Kelly, contacted me to let me know that they were replacing my carpet, was apologetic and assured me my experience was not the norm. She seemed genuinely concerned about my experience and assured me they would address it internally. Faith has been restored! Thanks all for your input and experience -

hummmmmmm...............i wonder if someone in upper management somehow got wind of your situation and the negative press they are receiving on a very prominent boating forum from somebody on this forum.....maybe someone named 'Jim' by chance?.......

An ugly story turned into success! That's great news.

However, from Frank's post #4 it would seem that the latex rubber backing might not be the best solution. Do they offer any other backings? Possibly, you could just pay the difference for an upgraded backing...

Good ideas thanks-

Cliff, possible, I will say they seemed very concerned about the review I left on FB.
