Does anyone have a source for a custom length 50A shore power cord?

A friend of mine is constantly wrestling with his 50' beast of a cord and I suggested that he get one custom made for our home dock to the precise length that he needs (probably around 8') and leave that at the marina and put the 50' beast in the bilge. Before you mention it, yes, he knows he could buy a pre-made shorter cord, but he was hoping to get one made to the exact length he needs.

I would have thought this would be an easy thing to find on the Internet, but haven't had much luck.

Anyone have a source or any ideas? I know it will be expensive, but what the hell--- it's not my money!

Marinco used to offer more than one length by special order.........also, in more than just Marinco yellow. But you don't want a black power cord because they will leave black skuff marks on white fiberglass.

But, the catch is, they are horrendously expensive. As an alternative, you can probably buy a standard 50ft. cord set, cut it in half and then order a male & female end and reassemble the long cord into 2 smaller ones. I've done this for a couple of friendswho each wanted a 25 ft cord........they just split the cost and I did the ends for them (now they owe me!)

The problem with that approach is that the cut end connection is not factory sealed. If it's not sealed it's not safe.

I did the same thing at our marina for my neighbor, figure the cable, in white, is about $ 12.00 a ft. The ends with covers are about $ 85.00 ea. Bob

That's what I did with an extra 30a cord. I bought the new ends from Consumers Marine here in NJ. They are Hubbell plugs and are more reasonably priced (Marinco prices are obscene). I've been using these cables as my standard dockside cables for 2 years and they are 100% waterproof and 100% safe.

Isn't it crazy that you can buy a 50' cordset with factory ends, for less than the cost of trying to buy the wire alone? And the 30' cordset costs more than the 50'? That's boating for ya.

I was surprised to see that WM has a 30A 12' that just came in on there mailer.
I need a 6'

Maybe they have a 50A also:huh:

I put a new power cord on my boat last year (75 feet of white 50A) and you can get the white 50A cord from Glendenning (sp?) by the foot. They also sell the white Marinco 50A connectors that Sea Ray uses.

I have a 12 foot cord now that is essentially an extension cord I can leave on the dock. You do, however, need to unplug it from the pole before unplugging the boat because if it falls in the water... well... it could get ugly.

What the hell is "factory sealed"? The original cord I had didn't have any special secret sealing sauce on it.... That there is one load of poop....
