My hurley system works well.....However, my platform is a bit high for easy loading.....Unloading is like watching the dink go down space mountain at Disney. I am going to make a one piece solid aluminum arm (just like what came with it) but add a fish hook like extension to bring me 6 inches closer to the water to make loading and unloading easier....It will have no impact on getting the boat on plane.... Here is a rough picture of what it will look like when done...All corners to be soft corners. An extention piece from arm to arm for a bit more stiffness........

Hey, I 'm fabricating my davits my platform is 14" above the water so i made custom (arms) here are some pics so far the plywood will be the templete to be transferred to poly pro similar to starboard lumber 1" thick let me know what you think?

looks great......cant wait to see the finished product....what are you going to encase the plywood with

no the plywood is a templete i will clamp it to 1" polypro (starboard) and cut it with a flush bit on a router then a 1/2 round bit to smooth all the edges similar to the hurley davit arms ( i think)

here is my custom arms that i created.......this system will be a cinch to load and unload.......1/4 inch solid aluminum that i will paint with immersion tank paint black........it fit perfect and will allow for 20 mils of paint too........i will follow up with pictues with the dink loaded next weekend........

I would keep an eye on the clearance to the fiberglass when you load it up. Seems like a lot of torque on the bolted joints. You may need to add support across the joint (webbing). Otherwise looks like a great plan. I have ben thinking about adding a few inches to my Hurley supports to my the dink rearward. I may also make them removable by using Weaver mounts so that I don't have two harpoons sticking out the back of the boat.

When I put a good deal of weight and pressure on it, it flexes about 1/4" only, which leaves me about 3/4" of play.....it is solid aluminum.....
