First off I'd like to apologize to Doug "presentation".. When I first read about how long it takes hime to wax/detail his 280 I was dumbfounded (sp?) I remember thinking "holy crap, this dude is a slug..... how on earth can it take him that long to detail his 280???". well that was until I did it to mine for the first time.:smt021 So......... Doug, sorry for the hostile thoughts:grin:. Ok, I want my 250 back.... (not really) but damn,,, that's a bunch of fiberglass to wax.:wow: I never needed a ladder to clean and wax my 250.. After 6 hours of work, cleaning a boat that wasn't even"dirty" by most of my marina mates' standards, the owner of the marina decides to use a Bobcat with a broom attachment to clean the river silt off of the parking lot... (see photo).. the wind and the dust had one phrase pounding though my head JUSTIFIABLE HOMICIDE... I wanted to kill him..........:smt013:smt013:smt013:smt013

I do believe I would I would take the Porter Cable Orbital Polisher to his head. Why he is even doing that around boats is beyond me. You are already paying to store it there......why not get some free chips in the gelcoat while you are at it.

Sigh.

Well when you get really energenic, come do my 320.. I wash and waz this boat 3 times a year. i keep it looking sweet as can be, and I consider it a labor of Love, plus I enjoy it, I call it Dumb work, you don't have to think, because sometimes my brain actually hurts, and waxing the boat, not to mention sniffing the wax, helps to alleaviat all the day's worries......Don't you think?

Question, Does anyone wax the top deck? I don't touch the rough surface with wax, what about the others. what do you do?

I do put wax on the deck - it's fiberglass like the rest and I want some level of uv protection on the gelcoat. The 280 is alot of boat - I have heard some people wax it WITHOUT using a PC or any power assist!

Great pic .. with that bobcat and the rotobrush doing its thing in the background.:smt021

I used to be a hand wax type of guy. . .then one year. . .in 95F heat. . .the wax (this was good stuff!) was drying HARD onto the hull in 30 seconds. Did half a boat. . .and realized that the "freshly waxed" side looked worse than the "two years since last wax" side. CRAP. Out to West Marine to buy compound. And different wax. And a buffer.

This year. . .stepped up a notch and have a brand spanking new Porter Cable to play with.

You are more than welcome to come down and wax my 480 anytime to test if you want to maintain something like that...

Hey Lt. Dan,

I just saw this.

I can not see the picture you posted. Just a box.

Am I the only one who cant see the picture in the first post above?

I just did my whole boat and it was a two day job.........pull boat out of water........wash it thoroughly..........polish and wax by hand and with the PC Orbital (I do all the non skid too).

That's enough to cure my ITIS craving for awhile. Me and Mr. Advil will be good buddies for a few days and I have no craving to own a bigger boat (for now).

I wax the whole boat. non skid and every thing. first time every year while the boat is out of the water, then from the water line up every other week or so. I know its nuts but I like when people ask if the boat is new.
