Can someone save me an extra 2 hr. trip to my boat and provide the part number for the correct Fleetgaurd oil filter for the Cummins QSB 380 engines?

Oil viscosity / type also? I do know from Cummin's web site that I'm looking at 16 qts.

Double check the oil filter. Tony recommended the LF3894 for the QSB 380 but in my recent check these filters may provide too much restriction which causes low oil pressure. I believe the correct filter may be LF3959.

Old issue that was never confirmed to be filter related.. The actual issue was related to some "less than perfect" oil lines of some of the early QSB's................The LF3894 is considered the premium upgrade to the LF3959 OEM unit.. But, there is nothing wrong w/ the LF3959--I just happen like like the Stratapore media and have used it since day one with only the best of results..

Fleetguard Oil Filter Part # LF3959 or LF3894
A cross reference filter I have been using the past 2 seasons is the NAPA GOLD 1607 or WIX Filter 51607. Both can be found at any NAPA Auto parts store and save you a few bucks.

Thanks everyone for some good info.......while I have you (sort of) any oil make / viscosity recommendations (operated in FL)? I know my manuals will specify a viscosity but curious of your opinions. Rotella (sp?), Penzoil, Chevron, etc? Figuring to avoid the high cost of synthetics as there's just too much oil at 16 qts per engine if I do annual changes

Rotella is a good oil but I use the Valvoline Blue 15w-40. This is the oil that Cummins recommends. I also purchase it at the local Cummins dealer when they have a sale. Typically you have to buy a case and get 15-20% off. If Cummins recommends it, why not use it?

As far as saving a couple of bucks on filter, why? Couple bucks on a $500,000 boat. You have to be kidding me right. Fleetguard are great filters and I know that some of the other filters do not have the amount of filter media in them. To be sure, take both apart and examine yourself.
