Who has done the full “1000 hr” Cummins service on there 8.3 motors? Just curious if we missed anything? And curious as to what it cost you? Just did:

Main engines:
After coolers (cleaned one, replaced other)
Heat exchangers (cleaned)
Coolers (cleaned)
Replaced all coolant and filter
New belts
Valve adjustments
Replaced about 4 hoses and clamps on each engine

Generator:
Valve adjustments
Heat exchanger cleaned
Coolant changed
Belt changed
All new exhaust hoses (increased muffler size)
All new coolant hoses

All have fresh oil change, fuel filters, water pumps

Anything else that you have found that needs attention?

Well done. There really isn't a formal 1000 hour service. Most of that stuff you did I do in 2-5 year intervals depending on what it is. Did you already have an interval to change the impellers?

Are your transmission oil coolers the factory originals? If so throw them out and buy new ones. They can fail at any time after 10 years and the failure mode is a locked up overheated transmission from the gear oil getting sucked out with the seawater. That's an $8000 problem versus $300 for a new cooler.

I did new pumps earlier this year, I should replace the trans coolers. Any maintenance needed on the turbo’s??

Not really anything to do on the turbos. You could pull off the exhaust elbow from it once every couple of years and look and see if any salt water is working back rusting out the turbos exhaust housing. And spin the turbine by hand to make sure it spins freely. Mine were pretty bad such that I sent both turbos out for rebuild and sleeving of the exhaust housing. In our sedan bridge the mixing elbow will develop pin holes after 10 years or so and spray saltwater back into the turbo. So I replaced the mixing elbows as well with ones made from INCONEL, which is basically supposed to never get degraded by salt water. I'm not sure how they did the Sundance's exhaust. You may have something different that works better in salt.

Hey Larry---where do you boat in Oakland?

Yes, we live in Oakland but keep the boat in Norwalk CT in the Summer and we bring it down to the Outer Banks in NC for the Winter, actually heading to the boat tonight and will be on it all weekend.

1000hrs....Jezz, I just went over 500 this past summer.
Had the Cummins mechanic change coolant and filters, changed transmission oil,
Aid flush coolers
Oil samples looked great
I change oil and filters, impellers and fuel filters.

Hi Larry. Any chance you would have part numbers on your invoicing for this 1000hr service? This would be very helpful.
