I have been searching for a Freshwater clean 310-340DA,
I have noticed that there are nice clean boats sold in the Nashville area along the Cumberland River , most of these boats are kept under cover so the glass and canvas are usually in very good shape.
When inquiring about one of these boats, asking about the bottom paint, the broker mentioned to me that he thought it was good and that the owner had a diver clean the bottom and check the running gear 3 times a year.
He said with the shallow bays and extreme temps and humidity that the bottoms foul up pretty quick.
Being from the Great Lakes area is there anything I should be aware of when possibly purchasing a boat from this area of the country.

Thanks

I would say...wrong. I owned a boat for a bit in the area, and never had an issue. The water is generally clear compared to other areas, and if there's a lot of fouling, it's due to lack of use. Good luck. This is an area to find lots of good boats. Most stay covered and get used in lakes.

no need for a diver. with proper anti-fouling bottompaint such as interlux csc for example, you just need to run the boat to clear the bottom. I usually have my bottom paint re-done every 3 years and it stays clean as a whistle. if the paint is old, yes, it will foul quickly and you'll know it. if you want to clean the running gear every season, no harm there there but I dont think its necessary.

Most boats in this area are under cover.

I have a buddy on my dock who wants to seel his 340DA, I think it's an '01. if interested, PM me and I'll pass along his contact info.

Boats in our areas stay nice and clean if kept under cover. Plus we do not have harsh winters that can do a deep freeze on any moisture trapped in stringers or in the hull itself. Many do not even winterize in Tn but we certainly do here in Ky.

I personally just went 10 years on my last epoxy and bottom paint job, never needed anything cleaned as a run on plane does the job. The paint was still doing its job but I felt it should be done regardless.

Check out Lake Cumberland for a lot of nice fresh water under cover boats as well. Mine is for sale but perhaps larger than what you are looking for.

Good luck with the hunt for the perfect boat.

As warm as this past Summer was, it didn't take long for the bottoms to get shaggy around here. A very nice 340 just down the dock from me was on the market for maybe 2 weeks, and got snapped up. There are quite a few nice boats around here, and I get to talk with the folks from Nashville Yacht regularly, as they spend a lot of time at my marina.

Actually I am looking at a boat that Nashville yachts has listed.
Whitenight had mentioned because of your climate of no or little freezing, that possible moisture in the stringers would not be an issue.
I would probably have to add a moisture scan to any survey because when it hits our colder climate it might be, any thoughts:smt100

I am not saying that our boats might not have moisture. What I mean is that if a boat has moisture in the stringers, then is haued out during harsh winters, the hull can do a hard freeze. This freeing and thawing of moist wood is not good on stringers as eventually it will lead to problems. Most boats in our area stay in the water year round and never get a hard freeze so don't have as many issues from that.

I would think your surveyor would do some moisture checks around the hull. Mine did when I bought my boat in AL last year.

Lake of the Ozarks is flush with fresh water under cover Sea Rays. Prices right now are very good.
